Social Media

While many people argue that Social media sites like Facebook or
Twitter cause cyber bullying, social detachment, and poor grades, the fact of the matter is that social media helps people make friends, shy people can improve their social lives, and brings friends closer. Although many of the arguments against social media are true, many can be fixed easily by blocking the other user or simply stepping away from the screen. Also the benefits far outway the costs by bring people closer, helping shyness and creating new friends.
Some people argue that social media is the root of cyber bullying, but in fact accoerding to internetsafety101.org: 80% say they have defended the victim. People often defend victims and stand together. Social media unites people against hate and discrimination. Often people create groups or pages to help support these people. The facts speak for themselves: According to internetsafety101.org, only 7% of U.S. parents are worried about cyberbullying. The fact of the matter is that social media has taken many steps to help prevent cyberbullying and have been very successful.
One of the many arguments against social media is it causes social detachment. But from personal experience I can say without a doubt that facebook has brung me a better social life by granting me the ability to plan events or get togethers

with my friends with simple status updates or messages. It truly makes having a social life easier. Before I had a facebook I rarely left my house to hang out with friends. Social media is a tool many people around to the world use to help become more connected to the people around them
Another argument against social media is the claim that it interferes with school work and causes poor grades, but i must say that nine times out of 10 when i need help on an assignment i go to facebook or twitter and ask about and always receive the help i need.

According to the fourth annual study on Civility in America: A Nationwide Survey, conducted by global public relations firm Weber Shandwick “for the first time since the survey began in 2010 the Internet/social media has risen into the top ranks of perceived causes of incivility. In the past, we and our minors have been familiarized with the issue of bullying at schools, workplaces, and other populated settings. However the calamity has never stopped growing and has spread to an even more adaptable environment, the Internet, specifically social networking sites Surveys by bullyingstatistics.org indicate that over 50% of adolescents have been cyber bullied, 10 to 20% are cyber bullied routinely. Consumer Reports has reported one million minors to have been cyber bullied on a social networking site just last year. It is not merely frequency we should be concerned about but also the severity of the consequences. The National Crime Prevention Council disclosed that victims of cyber bullying will most often experience a drastic deterioration in academic performance and self-esteem as well as depression and even suicide. Efforts to amend this situation are insufficient and for the most part barren, seeing as only one in ten victims will report being cyber bullied to their parents or guardians, and only roughly 7% of American parents are concerned at all regarding online bullying. Cyber bullying and its vicious nature will continue to be a normality as long as there is social media.…

As of November 20, 2014, same –sex marriage has been legalized in 35 out of 50 U.S. states. Same-sex marriage is a hot topic which the Supreme Court is considering to legalize. Many people say a homosexual person is a sinner. The question is do homosexual people choose his or her gender? They were born that way and they are happy with their lives. Homosexual people are nothing unlike heterosexual people. They are living, they are working, and they contribute to society. Proponents state that same-sex couples should have access to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that prohibiting gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. On the other side, opponents argue that altering the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman will further weaken a threatened institution and that legalizing gay marriage is a slippery downhill way that may lead to polygamous and interspecies marriages (gaymarriage.procon.org). All people in the world should understand the meaning of marriage, whether a same-sex marriage or a traditional marriage. For that reason, same-sex marriage should be considered as a legal marriage because it is an equal right for humankind and beneficial for society as well as preventing youth suicide.…

The prices of college tuition have increased yearly, and not much of an effort is put forth to try to lower the costs. For example, colleges in the state of Pennsylvania have a high tuition. Moravian College’s tuition is about $32,931, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $22,900. East Stroudsburg University’s tuition is about $6,240, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $12,500. I can barely afford Community College, and I know for a fact I wouldn’t be able to afford any of these colleges or universities either. In this essay, I will explain through facts and opinions, why the cost of college tuition should be lowered.…
