To Decriminalize Marijuana Or To Not
Should marijuana be decriminalized nationwide throughout the U.S? Marijuana has been around for hundreds of years. Many people are for decriminalizing marijuana and many people are against it. Some people view marijuana as a bad thing for our society and just as many if not more feel as though it could be beneficial. It could be bad I used improperly. For example while driving and someone under the influence of marijuana gets in a crash. It could be beneficial to society as well because you could use it for treatment for depression. Also if legalized it can be taxed and regulated to get the U.S out of debt. However marijuana is not all good. Studies show that one in six teenagers are predicted to become addicted. Studies also show teenagers who smoke marijuana more frequently at a young age are more likely to be at risk for addiction. Young adults who smoke marijuana tend to smoke more marijuana more frequently. When or if addicts discontinue smoking them usually show signs or withdraw symptoms. These symptoms may or may not include mood swings, anxiety, lack or appetite, irritability, depressions, troubles falling asleep, and many more. All though legalizing marijuana has its downsides it has its upsides as well. If marijuana is decriminalized and made more available the government may allow tax on it and help potentially get the United States of America get out of debt. $10,000,000,000-$20,000,000,000 worth of marijuana is sold yearly. Studies show marijuana is less addictive than any other substance. Only 10% of users get addicted to marijuana. As opposed to 15% who get addicted to alcohol. 23% or heroin users also show signs of dependency. Finally, a whopping 32% percent show signs of dependency on tobacco. Last but not least 18 states have decriminalized the substance, and many others are contemplating it as well. Based upon my research and
