Imagine you couldn't sleep one night or you are bored and you want to go on a jog or go for a walk, on a warm summer night or to even get some air after a long night or day. Unfortunately in Fort Madison and other cities all around we have curfew of a time of 12 so we aren't able to do those things we would like to do without being pulled over by a cop or getting in trouble even when its minor things we are doing such as simple run on a cool summer night. In 1999 a study was made and published in “western criminology review” they had examined juvenile and adult crimes in stats from 1980 to 1996 in California cities with curfew laws for the youth (http://www.eastbayexpress.com). The study had showed that there was no connection between crime and youth curfews caused or against juveniles. Even in the cities where the curfew law was strictly enforced. Think about this so if someone has a plan or intention to go steal a car or to go rob a bank at night, why would they have respect for a law that makes it illegal to go outside at a certain time? There has been little evidence to show that curfews lower crime rates. A big question asked about curfews has been if the curfew law is unconstitutional. Curfew laws have been a real court challenge and courts have been back and forth with this issue. There has been no studies to show that curfews reduce crime so in that case, especially without the attention of state interest. So in this case the NYRA ( National Youth Rights Association) strongly advise curfew laws are unconstitutional. In a held interview with De La Fuente an Oakland Councilman from Oakland, California. De La Fuente had said he didn't view curfews as a solution, However, he says he sees them as another crime- fighting weapon. (http://www.eastbayexpress.com). According also to the FBI it's been said curfews strike the wrong people.
