It’s not myth when people say women are being payed less than men. There is a lot of evidence and statistics that can prove that women are being payed less than are. “The Center for American Progress uses hard statistics to make its case. It says women who work full time year round continue to earn only about 77 percent of what men earn.” (Cooper) This already shows that women are earning less in full time positions when doing the same job as men. In 2009 Barack Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This was supposed to bring equal pay for equal work, but it hasn’t. The fact still stands that women are still getting paid less than men from the statistics before. As Lilly Ledbetter says herself, “the first step toward closing the pay gap – has gone largely unrealized.” (Ledbetter) Equal Pay hasn’t been achieved and the government aren’t really doing anything. This act was the first step and now the government and president need to push it further. It would also help the economy according to a study by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, the U.S, would produce and additional $447.6 billion in income. (Ledbetter) Lilly Ledbetter is now urging the government and president to do more towards equal pay to make it a
