What is breastfeeding? For many years breastfeeding has been a way for mothers to provide their kids with the nutrients that they need for healthy growth and development. Breastfeeding Breastfed babies experience lasting health benefits. This includes helping to prevent several diseases such as diabetes, childhood cancers, obesity, infections, diarrhea, chest (respiratory) infections and asthma. Breastfeeding is more beneficial to a newborn, rather than drinking out of a bottle. Another major benefit about breastfeeding is that it's free. It's a much better choice rather than the average cost of $1,733 annually to feed their child with a formula. Newborns need to be fed 2-3 hours a day, and women can't just stay home just to breastfeed. …show more content…
When a mom is walking her child in a public area and her child starts crying cuz he/she is hungry, the mother has no choice but to feed her child. You can’t expect the baby to wait to eat or for the mother to wait to feed her baby.
Although some places offer special breastfeeding areas, most do not. Until all public locations do, you can nearly guarantee that women will breastfeed in public. Breastfeeding is not intended for women to show off their bodies, it's only meant for her child to be fed. Thankfully, only two states in the United States (North Dakota, Virginia ) exempt breastfeeding moms from the public, and Idaho has not yet made any laws regarding
breastfeeding.
On the other side, many people who don't agree with breastfeeding find it "disgusting" and to "intimate" for a public area. There have been many stories where mothers have been to a restaurant breastfeeding or other public areas and people confronted the mothers because of finding it uncomfortable to others, so people believe that the less the mothers do it, the fewer complaints will occur.
In conclusion, I believe that mothers should be allowed to feed their newborns no matter where they are for the sake of their child's health and well-being. I also believe that women shouldn't be tormented and confronted by people for doing what's best for their child despite how others feel.
