I realize that it is opposite of the manner in which this school had begun, but it seems as though we have little choice. We already have a faculty unit that is looking to form a union due to the budget crisis, we should probably consider coming back to them with a better long-term plan in place.…
Technology has improved the human species by providing information around the world, leading to developments in different countries. Biotechnology is improving the world of medicine, agriculture, and energy production. In the medical world, technology has a big impact by helping scientists and doctors figure out how to fight off diseases and viruses. For example, there are two individuals, one who has malaria and the other has built up a resistance to malaria. Knowing that an individual has built up resistance to malaria can help, simply by taking a sample of their blood and uploading it to a computer. Scientists will trying to figure out what is the cause for this resistance to malaria, they will have to break down the DNA of the individual who is immune and simply extract the gene repelling malaria. With this knowledge there will be fewer deaths to groups of individuals who have not genetically build up a resistance to malaria in high risk countries. The downfall to biotechnology in the medical world is finding test subjects that will comply with the testing’s. Once the scientists and doctors find a concrete solution, they will be approved by the FDA to release their material to the general public. In the agricultural world, technology has helped us improve plants to become more stable and be able to sustain life in certain temperatures. With the creation of the microscope, we can see what genes we can take out the plant and add to the plant cell, so it can become a super plant. As we grow, global warming is causing the Earth to become hotter each year. Therefore we are then creating plants that can sustain life with less water than the original. We know that with every step we take to advance in this world there is a downfall. The downfall for biotechnology in the agriculture world would be time…

The video “A Class Divided” was about an exercise in discrimination. Jane Elliot, a 3rd grade teacher in an all-white town in Iowa, decided to teach her students about discrimination and the effects that it has on people. She started the exercise by asking her class about national brotherhood week, what it means to them, and if there are people in America who are not treated like brothers. Her students told her yes, that black and Indians were not treated as brothers.…
If you think about it, many other people have a different society than others. These societies have positive attributes and negative ones as well. In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, the clip “On the Road: Middle School Football” with Steve Hartman; the poem “The World Is Not a Pleasant Place to Be” by Nikki Giovanni, it gives us positive information about Ponyboy’s society, Keith’s society; the society described in the poem. And knowing how their society is positive might change the way you think forever.…
The documentary “A Class Divided” is very eye opening into the world of racism and discrimination. The textbook Racial and Ethnic Groups defines racism as “a doctrine that one race is superior” and discrimination as “the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons” (Schaefer, pp. 14,41). The film’s set the tone for only being able to comprehend these concepts by truly “walking in their moccasins” as Ms. Elliot states. She was just an ordinary teacher that felt a mere discussion on these subjects just wasn’t enough in light of the times. The assisnation of Martin Luther King Jr. and the rising division of our nation by color demanded something else. This is when she decided to give a lesson based on blue eyes and brown eyes that would give rise to a microcosm society in her 3rd grade classroom (Frontline, 2003). As I examine this film, I hope to give better incite about the feelings and attitudes towards racism and discrimination.…
As a soon to be Chicago Public Schools alum, in my lifetime I have experienced school budget cuts, teacher displacements, and two teacher strikes. I have always believed that education is the key to success and extended opportunities, but for the past two years, the optimism that I have always had has slowly started to deteriorate. Everyday when I view the news, it seems that my education is being attacked. Whether it is on a federal, state, or city level. Recently, I just learned that the Trump administration is planning to make significant budget cuts to the Pell Grant program; the state of Illinois seems to also be doomed. Because the state has no budget, funding for the MAP Grant program is tentative. As far as the city, it seems that Chicago has the power to invest in every project except public education.…

"On multiple social media sites and online communities, a photo of the two stars was uploaded with the words, ""A picture of Jo In Sung and Go Hyun Jung captured at a Japanese airport."" In the said picture, the actors seem to be moving their baggage while standing next to each other.…
When it comes to your junior year of high school the topic college starts to appear in your conversations more often. You start to think about what college you want to attend and then soon enough you start the application process. Some students have the grades and funds to venture off into the collages they want. On the other hand, there are some students who start their college experience at a community college because they don't have the grades or funds to venture off to their dream college. To some, community college is the way to go to get their grades up to par with their dream schools standers or until they have enough funds to attend their dream college. Community college, in some cases, may be a benefit to their students, but in…
In Mantsios article “Class in America” he states that Americans hold beliefs that blind them to social classes, citizens in America have four myths they use to ensure talk about the classes never take place. America has the largest gap between rich and poor in the world, and the lower class has no means to an end they can’t afford health care or quality education. The upper class avoids talk about social class the most; wealthy people don’t want to admit that they are better off than others. While the lower class sees how much better off others are than them, but they still don’t like to label themselves. I agree with Mantsios that most Americans avoid talk about classes although I am not one of them. Also I would agree there are myths that this country was founded on that may have at one point been true, but not anymore. As for Mantsios’s opinion on health care and education I would have to disagree, although many lower class Americans do not get the education and health care they need to survive I was not one of them.…
Since the days of the old west firearms have been a part of American tradition. Firearms have been used for protection, hunting and sport. However, because of the rise in crime rate and the fight to conserve our right to bear arms this has become a very hot topic, prompting national debate.…
For most students, high school is the toughest time of their lives and for many life after high school is much more difficult. Usually, students don’t seam to take High School seriously and they don’t get enough experience about college and the next steps that should be taken. However, students that think ahead and take college classes while in High school seem to be much more successful in the long run. So with that, students should take college classes while in High school because they gain additional knowledge, they get socialized with an older and more experienced crowd along with an understanding of what college is about.…
School uniforms have been a popular debate for years. Should we have them, should we not? Recently the school uniform rules have been changed and I find them simply outrageous, also most of these rules focus on girls; Skirts. Girls have been made to wear their skirts knee length. Why is this the case when most, if not all, girls hate wearing long skirts? The answer is boys. Us girls have to wear longer skirts to make sure they do not get distracted. We have to cover more of ourselves to keep their hormones in control. Disgraceful! A girl guiding survey found that 70% of girls aged 13-21 have experienced sexual harassment at school or college, the majority of this harassment is caused by males, therefore schools need…
Racism is a big probelm in today’s society. Many people don’t see how mucuh racsim there is in our schools, in our workplace, sometimes sports and any where else were socila lives are occurring . Racism is still around an it’s bad now then it was before . Racism very much exists and it is about time that people need to start thinking about the solutions to this matter. In fact, A person can’t be born racist but can only be one from childhood to adulthood.…
