Argumentative Essay On Flat Earth Theory
In a YouTube video called “It will be hard to deny the earth is flat after you watch this..” from the account Flat Earth Talk, a man goes through his carefully thought-out demonstration to prove that the world is flat. He begins by pouring water on a lemon which as you might expect flows right off. He follows this by pouring water onto and ordinary dinner plate which of course pools on its flat surface (Flat Earth Talk, 2017). Whether this is legitimate proof that the earth is flat in the eye of the beholder, but it does represent a growing trend in support of the flat earth theory. The flat earth theory, at one time a widely held idea, has been disproven to the satisfaction of the scientific community many times over. Despite the scientific …show more content…
Some believe that the bible is the only evidence that can be believed. Within it are several examples which can be interpreted to say that the world is flat. For example, “It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in” (Isaiah 40:22, English Standard Version) and “After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree” (Revelation 7:1, English Standard Version). There is some contention about whether the bible can be used to prove the flat earth theory or if the text is meant to be interpreted …show more content…
Even if a person chose to ignore the photographic and video evidence as fraudulent there are still several other ways to observe that the earth is round. The earliest example is ships on the horizon. People noticed that the sails of the ships approaching the shore appeared before the hull due to the curvature of the earth (Loxton, 2018). Different constellations appear depending on where something is on the earth. Similarly, night and day occur at different times in different places on the earth. In a lunar eclipse, the round shadow of the earth is cast across the moon. There are also things like gravity, the coriolis effect, and plate tectonics that could not exist on a flat

I give no credence to the Geocentric model that says that earth is at the center of the revolving planets and stars. And that the model shows us that we live in a perfect universe. The reason why people accept the geocentric model was because of two pieces of evidence. One was the greek observation, this is where the greek noticed several points in the light that seemed to warder slowly among the stars. After, they made a careful observation of the motions of the planets that they were able to see. The greek were certain about the earth being in the center of the universe, and that the earth is inside rotating dome they called the Celestial Sphere. The other evidence is the Ptolemy’s Model. A greek astronomer ptolemy believed that the geocentric model was right…

Christopher Columbus didn’t actually prove that the Earth itself was round. The reason is that because, the time when he traveled across the Atlantic ocean, or sailed to the ocean, there were quite few people who actually thought that it is actually possible to fall thought the edge of the Earth. The myths itself mentioned that the people said there were monsters and boiling water and it is impossible to cross over it, and yet no one did it except for Christopher Columbus. Offensive: Christopher Columbus and the rest of his crew were the reasons of the spreading of diseases, and were introduced syphilis and smallpox to most of the population that were completely devastated by them. Yet, I still thought that this day should turn into Native…

He then compares the very different beliefs of the shape of the earth in the Middle Ages with the ancient Greek ideas. Although the ancient Greeks were more accurate in their thinking, he later brings up the unfortunate fact that the Greek’s ideas were ignored and left out of the bible. This put scientific advancement more than a thousand years behind what it could have been. He continues…

The theory that the earth was flat and that it was therefore possible to sail off the edge of it was common in the middle ages, but had been discredited by Columbus' time. His first New World journey did help fix one common mistake, however: it proved that the earth was much larger than people had previously thought.…

What you may or may not have known is that the Earth is actually flat. In this paper I will insert testimonies from several celebrities and scientists while giving reasoning behind this claim. Flat Earth Society has several facts behind this. One is the Bedford Level experiment shown here. The first investigation was carried out by Samuel Birley Rowbotham (1816-1884), the president of the Flat Earth Society, in the summer of 1838. He waded into the river and used a telescope held eight inches above the water to watch a boat with a five-foot mast row slowly away from him. He reported that the vessel remained constantly in his view for the full six miles to Welney bridge, whereas, had the water surface been curved with the accepted circumference…

In the two-dimensional world of Flatland, many things are different from the three-dimensions that we exist in today. The whole perspective is different for the shapes of Flatland, and it can be difficult to imagine a world in which everything is flat, and there is no upwards or downwards, only side to side. Imagining the physical aspect of the unfamiliar land can be difficult, but an easier feat would be to discuss the social culture of Flatland. It consists of an uncompromising social class system, poor treatment of women, and various ways of recognizing other shapes.…
