The cultures on college campuses have shifted away from dating and serious relationships toward “hooking up”. “Hooking up” involves people engaging in casual sex and relationships without commitment. So called “No Strings Attached”. Conventionally, men have been thought of as the ones in pursuit of casual sex relationships. But as women are now receiving higher degrees and seeking more prestige in the work force, it has come to be believed by some that women are equally responsible for hookup culture. It is without a doubt that women participate in casual sex, but is this what they really desire? All signs point toward women desiring commitment, love, or romance. Young men in college, especially “frat stars” are known for preying on attractive young girls that they can hook up with. They find this advantageous to the standard dating. There is less pressure for the man. In dating, typically, the man must muster the courage to ask the girl to go on a date with him for fear of rejection. Once this hurdle is overcome, the guy is responsible for arranging the date and making it enjoyable. This includes all the planning and paying for the food and entertainment (Bradshaw et. al. 2). Taylor references a study on women from UPenn that surveyed whether or not they were looking for a serious relationship.
