Argumentative Essay On Nintendo's Violent World
The amount of amazing franchises that exist on Nintendo consoles reads like a who's who. This list includes Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Metroid, Pikmin, Kirby, and, of course, Pokemon. For any kid who owned a Game Boy back in the day, they knew how much fun Pokemon was. It is a very popular franchise, but here are some unknown facts that are sure to blow your mind.

FIRST FACT: POKEMON IS AN AMERICAN WORD

Many of you probably thought that Pokemon was a Japanese word, but it is not. It was actually originally known as Pocket Master, but Nintendo decided to morph the word and created Pokemon. It was a genius idea by Nintendo because it rolls off the tongue better than Pocket Monster.

SECOND FACT: HOW THE SERIES WAS INSPIRED

The creator, Satoshi Tajiri, has mentioned how this series came to be. He spoke of the fact that as a young child he would hunt for bugs, and then trade them with his friends. This should sound familiar because this is basically what you are doing when playing Pokemon games on a Nintendo console.

Not only this but over 200 million games have been sold. To put this in perspective, if you laid 200 million games on the ground side by side, it would run for about 16,000 miles.

Some of the most infamous violent video games are the dramatic decapitations, limb removal sequences and big blood splashes which are plentiful in God of War. As well as, Dead Space, an interactive horror story, where the gamer must destroy monstrosities by any means necessary to prevent getting mauled, bitten, impaled, torn in half or eaten. None of those sound like games any real parent would allow their child to play. But, we are the ones raising our children and not a politician, news corporation or much less some stranger. We are the ones that get to tell our kids, “no means no!” Some non-gaming adults claim people engaging in violent video games will start to confuse fantasy and reality, they will take the violence viewed in the game and believe such behavior is acceptable in the real world. But more informed adults would counter those assertions by stating that, if the vast amount of people which play violent video games all acted out on the violence they witness in games then anarchy would reign.
