For starters, the only real punishments that Lewis had received for the murders were probation and a fine given by the NFL. The only way that the legal system attempted to respond to his crimes was the give him a whole twelve months …show more content…
of probation regardless of outstanding evidence piled against him. The other one he received wasn’t even from the legal system- It was given by the NFL. Lewis was fined 25,000$ from the sports league instead of from an actual court. It makes the entire situation feel like the focus is trying to be shifted back onto his sports career instead of the fact that he was close to being charged with a major crime.
Second, the families of Baker and Lollar never received justice for the loss of their loved ones.
The man that they believed killed their son managed to get off scot free and continue his life of fame while throwing two companions under the bus. They had to sit back and watch him continue to be recognized as a huge celebrity and a sports idol for many years while no one received justice for the heinous crimes. Originally Lewis was going to be charged with two counts of murder but he instead struck a deal that allowed him to push the blame onto the people he had been with and he was allowed to go free of any …show more content…
consequences.
Finally, Lewis had three pieces of evidence that pointed towards him being a killer.
Stains of blood from Jacinth Baker had had been found inside his car. His white tuxedo that had been worn night of the crime was never recovered. However, a witness did testify to seeing a laundry bag tossed out of the limo which prosecutors believed that the bag contained the bloodied tux. Finally, the weapon had been purchased from the same store that Lewis had been in signing autographs the day before. Lewis’ name was also written on the receipt for the knife.
In conclusion, Ray Lewis was wrongly exonerated from his crimes and didn’t receive a worthy punishment for what he did. There was ample evidence that should have had him charged, the families of Baker and Lollar never got to see the killer punished and he never received a punishment that was good enough for his crime. Overall, he was treated differently due to his fame compared to if someone else had been charged with murder. Ray Lewis should not have been excused and should have been made to face his
crime.
