Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). From the moment Hamilton reaches the board, an inexplicable connection sparks. Bethany said “I’ve tried to explain why I feel the way I do and it's impossible. Only surfers get it: the rush, the addiction, the way it stirs your heart, plays with your head, and tortures your body (Hamilton 119) .” Although at times there were downsides, being the youngest of three and the only girl had its benefits. I am arguing that pirates and explorers are the same. Some reasons that shows they are alike is simply, how society has portrayed them how we think and how movie/book show that pirates are evil and manipulative and explorers are brilliant and heroic. Another reason they are alike is there greed, there has been many times that explorers and their greed has taken over. The last reason is what they’ve done, and how both of them have done horrible things. These are the three reasons why I think that pirates and explorers are alike.…
Seaworld, to this day, has a whale who has been brutally taken from his home, put in two different new homes, and in result to this situation he has killed three people. Despite his clearly shown aggressive traits, he has been used as a breeding machine for seaworld's past years, making 54% of the orcas at seaworld share his genes. This is why there has been a big debate since 1970 on whether or not these parks and entertainment should be allowed. These parks are making the animals sick and hurting them; Not only that, but they are teaching the people unrealistic expectations about the relationships between humans and animals. These animals lives are being shortened in captivity.…
In the recent decades, the worldwide shark population has experienced a drastic decline. This is a result of the over-hunting of sharks for their fins. Shark finning- the practice of catching a shark and removing its fins from the rest of its carcass- has become more common as the shark fin trade continues to grow. Sharks are currently being hunted at a much faster rate than they can reproduce, and if the hunting is not stopped, it will lead to their extinction. Despite its cultural significance and the economic benefits that can be gained from it, this trade must be discontinued to prevent the extinction of sharks.…
Others argue that fishing industries should continue as they do now. Fishing industries provide multiple job opportunities, the fishing industries have a large variety of jobs from fishing to tinning. New skills are earned from working at a fishing industry, also providing experiences to write in their resume (Connect Us Fund 1). This provides more sources of income, providing more tax money to the government, then helping the economy (Connect Us Fund 1). Industrial fishing companies have provided wider access to cheap seafood, then increasing the amount of people that want to include fish in their diets (Slow Food 43). Since seafood serves as a primary source of protein, it is commonly healthier and has more nutritional benefits than other…
