Many developing countries are more focused on short-term success than the actual need of investing additional money, energy, and time to have a positive effect on the environment. These nations are still facing issues regarding clean water, health care, and fundamentally important necessities of life (Kiamba 5). Instead of addressing these issues, that would bring more revenue in the long run, society is often more concerned with present gain. “Due to rapid industrialization and the drive to earn revenue and attract investment, developing countries continue to aggressively extract resources and produce harmful products and by-products, while they fail to meet the basic needs of their citizens” (Kiamba 6). If more environmental policies were implemented in our government, environmental issues could be lessened and the economy would end up prospering in years to come. While at Artscape this past summer (2017), I spoke with Phillip Singer, an artist who graduated from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. He has created many designs that show surrealist visions of nature. Although many of his paints are not realistic, they show nature in a positive light. One of his paintings that particularly stood out to me was The Early Bird (Singer). This painting shows a bird in a small confined man made room. Once the bird realizes that the window in the space has been opened, she flies out so fast that a feather falls off of her. This piece makes me think about how nature is meant to be free, and does not want to be controlled by humans. My own piece takes ideas from Singer because I want my design to show that humans have no right to interfere with the freedoms of the land and it’s
