The reason this shouldn’t be the case is because everyone in “The Crucible” is depicted as someone who took more than the recommended dosage listed on the side of a pill bottle. The Puritans were absolutely real but this was a long time ago, back when the separation of church and state wasn’t around. Salem must’ve been one of the absolute worst places to live at this time. In the “Play’s tale of morality and mass hysteria still relevant today” article, it compares the time rules and restrictions of “The Crucible” to events such as the September 11th attacks. Honestly, this is something North Korea and many other religious communities would do. Even The Puritans would be looking at these guys like “Woah now. Calm down.” Is The Crucible still relevant today though? I’d say yeah. It shows how greedy, intolerant, and gullible people can be when they don’t think these type of things through.
