Undocumented immigrants is one of todays most talked about topics in politics. It seems like a big controversy. You have two sides of the spectrum on what people agree on when it comes to this topic. The documentary “Wetback” goes in depth to show you all sides of this topic, the immigrants’ side, the volunteers at the immigrant safe house and the volunteers of the U.S. Border vigilantes group. You have the people that want to help out and understand the hardships that these people face in their country and the reasons for coming to the United States. Then you have the other side that believes that they have no rights and believe that they are vigilantes. These two groups of people set out to help out in their own way when it comes to undocumented
They come to the us to work and then send money back to the U.S. they pay their taxes but do not get to enjoy any of these benefits they are paying for. One of the weakest arguments they gave were that how it economically benefited Mexico. They discussed how all the money being sent back gave the country so much revenue. It seemed a little bit flawed. The U.S. border vigilantes also have strong and weak arguments, they said how some of these undocumented immigrants bring in drugs. Which is somewhat true, there are hundreds of underground tunnels that have been used to transport drugs. But this does not mean that all who cross over are carrying drugs. One of the weakest arguments they said was when one of the members of the group stumbled upon a camping site and found some documentation of an immigrant who had left his stuff behind; and says that he’s probably changed his name and in a town near you. In conclusion, “Wetback” is an interested documentary because it goes deep into a popular topic that people are scared to talk about. Both the U.S border vigilantes and the Safe house volunteers had strong arguments and weak arguments. We saw how they both wanted to help in their own way and how immigrants affected each of the
