Doing two to three hours of homework a night, after sitting for about five of the six and a half hours of school, creates unneeded stress and anxiety for most students--especially young and growing students with lots of energy. Some children do bad things to themselves because they are stressed in life with too much work. The Chicago Tribune says that kids work all day at school. After they go to school they get assigned homework to do after as even more work. Kids should not have to do more work after a long day of school.
Kids need time to play, relax, and learn in other ways besides sitting down and working on schoolwork. Kids also learn really well through exploration and direct experience like exploring in nature or playing sports at the park. When kids have too much homework, they can’t spend time with family and friends. One homework expert said that for each number in a grade (kindergarten is equivalent to zero) there should be 10 minutes of homework. The higher a grade gets the more hard work and study goes into a good enough grade. Some children have trouble doing homework when there are so many other things they want to do. Kids don’t need an extra load of work after they have gone to school. They need to spend time with family and friends because they love these people and need to connect with them to have a fun
