The Constitution is an outline framework of fundamental laws for governing the United States and guaranteeing the basic rights of its citizens. The founding fathers wanted a democratic and balanced nation under control without too much interference from the government. In the Constitution, two of the six principles that we have, is a limited government, to prevent tyranny of the despot, as well as checks and balances. Limitation in the government is where the governmental power is restricted by law. No one has ultimate power so that we can all live in a free and equal society.…
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards” (Kierkegaard). In the great debate of “Knowledge vs Experience”, each side of the story has its pros and cons when applied to the real world. Where knowledge allows its user to recall vast amounts of information about any learned subject, it fails to be able to apply that information quickly in the real world. Conversely, with experience, there is generally a lack of information from the get-go, however the lessons learned from actually experiencing a situation can be applied to further real life situations, and so forth. If I had to choose between living with solely knowledge or experience, personally I would have to pick experience over knowledge, due to its ability to have its lessons applied to later situations in the real world.…
It is my honor to recommend Federal Air Marshal Kenneth Randles for the position of Training Instructor of the Federal Air Marshal Service’s Detroit Field Office. As a highly respected member, mentor, and leader, FAM Kenneth Randles’ s contributions to the Federal Air Marshal Service are exemplary. His dedication to the mission is unequaled and places him in the top tiers of his peers.…
At a service academy, the people that attend are there to get an education and train to be an officer in the military. They are there to gain valuable life and military skills. In my opinion, that is more appealing than any college. I want to surround myself with people that have the same goals and aspirations as me, and I believe that the Academy can provide that. During the week that I was at the Air Force summer seminar, I learned about life at the Academy. I knew going into that week, that I would either love it or hate it. Throughout the week I spent time doing physical training, going to classes, and learning about life at the Academy. After that week, I knew I wanted to attend the Air Force Academy. I knew I belonged. I want to attend…
America will not overcome. Not without first excepting the fact that it’s not as free as it’s slogan reads. It’s easy to want to dismiss the past as the past and claim that all it is is history but that does not excuse the fact that racism is alive and well in America today.…
At the start of high school, I learned that all students at my school were expected to perform sixty hours of community service before graduating. I hoped that my time would be well used, and that I could create a noticeable difference in someone else's life.…
Buddhism and Daoism are both religions of the Chinese people. These are two of many religions of the massive world we live in. each of them are distinctive, but greatly influenced the lives of their followers and the society in which the belief systems are practiced. Buddhists follow the Four Noble Truths and the Taoists follow the Four Major Taoist Principles.…
On the night of the Sunday April 11th 1812, around two hundred and fifty Luddites mustered in Blake’s Farm bottom field. Gledhill and his deputies arranged them in eight platoons of riflemen, three of pikemen, three companies with pistols, one of hammerers, another of hatchet men, and two companies that had only the stones making their deep pockets bulge. The company stood six deep under the trees against the hedge waiting for the command to ‘move off.’ The Luddite Army was prepared to fight and to die. Like the parting of Moses from the Children of Israel, Gledhill knew he might not enter the Promised Land, so his pre-attack oration had an element of farewell that was moving. He looked at his army, nodding his appreciation at the sea of faces.…
The Fourth Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures; however, it does not guarantee against all searches and seizures if there is reasonable doubt. Searches are determined on two important interests. The first is the intrusion on the individual’s Fourth Amendment Rights; the second includes legitimate government interests such as national security. What constitutes a reasonable suspicion? Where must a public official draw the line? How should one address any “gray area” that might arise?…
“Did you attend the Christmas party at the orphanage with the National Honor Society last Friday?” asked Angelica as she walked with Jacoya to lunch in the cafeteria.…
Two years of FREE community college! In theory, this sounds like a really good idea, and would give numerous people, who would otherwise not have the option to continue his education, the opportunity to get a good start on his college degree. President Obama has proposed a two year, free community college plan. in his speech given at Pellissippi State College in Knoxville, Tennessee, President Obama stated, a college education should be “as free and universal as high school is today” (Korte). High school is not free. Tax paying citizens pay for children to get a high school education. College should be more affordable for those who wish to pursue a higher education, but the President’s plan will not work; there are too many expenses that would not allow the nation to support every college student who attends a two year college. There are too many questions and concerns about offering two years of free higher education to everyone. College is not for everyone, and certainly will…
Abortion is a controversy that has been argued and fought about for decades. People ask whether it’s the body of the mother or the life of the child, who is in charge? The answer to that is simple. The mother is the one in charge of her body, but while being in charge of her body she engaged in intercourse and as a result there came a baby. Now, the baby is a person too, so going forward with abortion is indeed murder. There are at least three alternatives to abortion: parenting, adoption, and interim foster care (Abortion Alternatives). Most people claim that not everyone is ready to be a parent, and they are correct. However, as was said before there are other options than just being parent. There are options that wouldn’t be murder.…
Coming into the project I was looking forward to interviewing a veteran, at first I really wanted to interview a World War Two veteran. I thought it would be very cool to sit down and hear an untold story of a true American hero that fought in one of the most memorable, and one of my favorite wars. But as I continued to search for a World War Two veteran I couldn’t find one so I joined groups with Tyler, Jose, and Mauricio. They had then told me that we would be interviewing Tyler’s stepdad, who was currently enlisted. Of course my dream of interviewing a word war two veteran was tossed out of the window. Then I had thought about it and to hear the story of a national hero that is serving in the War on Terror currently would be pretty cool. Although I didn’t get my World War Two veteran, I was still pretty stoked about hearing our veteran’s story.…
The prices of college tuition have increased yearly, and not much of an effort is put forth to try to lower the costs. For example, colleges in the state of Pennsylvania have a high tuition. Moravian College’s tuition is about $32,931, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $22,900. East Stroudsburg University’s tuition is about $6,240, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $12,500. I can barely afford Community College, and I know for a fact I wouldn’t be able to afford any of these colleges or universities either. In this essay, I will explain through facts and opinions, why the cost of college tuition should be lowered.…
The definition of abortion is; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The abortion controversy is one of the biggest debates that have been going on for years. Many people feel that aborting an unwanted child should be outlawed. Others consider it as immoral and possibly even murder. I support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. As a female, I believe that the government has no right to dictate what happens to a woman’s body. Therefore, everyone should become pro-choice.…
