Which of the two components are underperforming according to the plan? How do you know this?

Technical Infrastructure is both behind schedule and over budget as indicated by the SPI (94.4%), Control Ratio (< .9) and CPI (91.7%)

Schedule

Estimated Project Duration

Are the components of the project within budget?
How do you know?

Software is within budget, technical is over budget by $85,410 based on
EAC.

What can you conclude by looking at the combined earned value data for the project?

The projects when combined appear on track to be completed $64k under budget and 6 days early
Viewing as a consolidate projected can distort the true picture. Using this view Terry Baker would easily been led to believe the projects were on budget and on time.

What should Martin have done earlier in the project timeline to prevent delays?
• Reporting Earned Value and reviewing critical path project tasks independently of the project as a whole, Martin would have visibility to these problems earlier.
• With earlier visibility shifting resources from Software to
Technical Infrastructure may have been possible.

What should Martin do when managing future projects to prevent similar problems from developing?
• Tighter monitoring and control of project
• Enhanced communication plan
• Dedicated Staff (full review of any resource constraints and changes) • Order Hardware Earlier
• Begin testing Earlier
• Setup system access security up front

Riordan Manufacturing is using different business systems throughout their branches. These different systems are causing difficulties, which produces errors in reporting and argument between these branches. San Jose has a license for a fully integrated Windows system without application source code. Michigan has a vendor software application that is no longer supported due to the vendor no longer being in business. To compound the issue, Georgia’s software is from a different vendor than Michigan’s vendor. A company that uses multiple systems will run into numerous difficulties, which can be prevented or resolved by planning and integration of a single business system that was designed and configured for all braches to access and use.…

In this case, Joyce Givens entered into a rental agreement (week to week or month to month) with Rent-A-Center in which she rented a bar and an entertainment center. She violated the terms of the rental agreement due to nonpayment and taking the furniture with her when she moved. Rent-A-Center filed a criminal complaint against Ms. Givens, in which Ms. Givens returned the furniture. Ms. Givens later filed a lawsuit against Rent-A-Center stating that they violated the Consumer Leasing Act. In regards to who wins the suit, Rent-A-Center would win. This is based upon the original agreement that Ms. Givens and Rent-A-Center entered into. It was a rental agreement. Rental agreements are not considered consumer leases, as a result, the case more than likely will be dismissed.…

Upon entering into the alcoholic beverage industry in South Africa, Heineken encountered several key issues including legal concerns regarding a contract with SAB Miller, a struggling subsidiary, outdated infrastructure, fragmented retail landscape, ever-changing government laws and regulations, and limited access to a skilled work pool. Since Brandhouse, Heineken’s subsidiary, has been able to establish a local production facility, it has been able to grasp 12.8% of the South African beer market. Strategies and business practices attributing to their success are strategic joint ventures (most notably the DHN JV) with industry giants, re-evaluation and realignment of business practices and organizational goals, innovation, rapid response, and strong CSR practices. Heineken’s entry into South African through the Brandhouse joint venture provides a successful entrance example for adult beverage companies to consider when planning to access to the market. It is highly advised that entry is not done alone. The market is established and highly competitive, leaving little chance of new companies succeeding. Pooling resources is the best strategy in this situation.…

The death penalty has been in existence over 100 years in California. When capital punishment began the first method of execution was hanging. In 1937, they stopped hanging the convicted and replaced the method with the gas chamber. However, in 1972, the death penalty was considered cruel and unusual punishment. The abolishment of the death penalty was reinstated two years later in 1974. In 1992, lethal injection was added as a method of execution. The condemned would be able to choose how they wanted to be executed, however, in two years later in 1994; the gas chamber was ruled cruel and unusual punishment, which left only one method of execution, lethal injection (California has never used the electric chair as a method of execution). Despite being a legal, later abolished legal again, the question is; is this method of execution benefiting the state of California?…

When the words “year-round school” are thrown out, many students will try and stop you right there and run away as quick as they can. A common misconception of “year-round schooling” is that it means more school, but actually it is just a rescheduling of the current traditional schedule. Instead of getting close to three months of break in the summer, the year-round schedule suggests having multiple shorter breaks throughout the year in order for students to retain more information and to help students from getting “burnt out” or losing focus from long periods of school without a break. Year-round schooling needs to be the new schedule for schools in the United States since it increases information retention with students, helps students keep an interest in school, and helps to avoid stress with students, which will improve students ' learning in school compared to the traditional schedule which most schools are operating on currently. Year-round schooling has been proven to not only help students retain information in-between breaks more efficiently, but also certain types of year-round schedules have actually been able to increase a school’s occupancy as well as increase students’ general interest in school.…
