In conclusion, the purpose of the lab Bird Adaptations was to act as a bird using different tools as a beak, and try to collect as many items as you can at each station in 15 seconds. Overall, the data collected throughout this lab supported each of my hypothesis. The data shows that certain “beaks” worked better than the other at collecting food. For example, the data shows that for the Seeds Station the tweezers worked best with an average of 9.3 pieces of food, the straw worked best for the Nectar Station with 6.1 items, tweezers worked best for the Fish Station with 8.7 items, tweezers worked best for Insect Station with an average of 8.3 items, and tweezers worked best for the Sticks Station. Based on the data, the tweezers were the most effective at collecting the most food in 15 seconds. On the other hand, certain beaks were less effective at certain stations. The worst beak for each station was;…

Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to see which color of feeder that people commonly use would be the one that birds eat seed from the most. I became interested in this idea because I like birds and animals period and I wanted to find out more about them and their eating habits. So out of the five feeders of orange, red, green, blue, and white that were put out the orange was favored the most. We could learn a lot from this experiment because it is still hard for us to imagine how birds perceive color. This impacts the study of bird behavior, and our grasp of how birds navigate during migration, classify objects, and interact socially and sexually. For example, some species we see as having identical male and female plumage differ when seen in the ultraviolet range, a difference apparent to the birds themselves. The information gained from this experiment will help society because anybody who wants birds at their house will benefit from knowing which color of feeders birds are attracted to most. Also the information gained from this experiment could affect anyone who wanted birds in their yard, or wanted to feed birds in the winter or spring. People who work for the Department of Fish and Wildlife might also be interested.…

Text 1 is a science informative article written by an expert, Jennifer Ackerman. This piece is to inform adults, science students, and nature lovers the new methods of crane migration. The article discusses how an endangered group of young cranes are raised in an environment that appears to be natural in the wetlands of Wisconsin but is actually an environment that is man-made to meet the needs of cranes. The author quotes, “As part of an experimental program to reintroduce a wild migratory population of whooping cranes to the eastern half of North America, these chicks have been fed and tended by crane-costumed people for two months.” Clearly, the cranes are monitored by humans, even though the cranes don’t get to see humans, in crane costume. The ultimate goal of the experiment is to train the cranes so they can be released in to the wild and survive. Before they are released in the wild, the cranes are trained to learn their traditional migratory routes. For instance, Operation Migration teaches the birds to fly behind an ultralight plane (flown by a pilot in a crane costume) to migrate to 1,200 km in Florida. Until now, two successful trips have been made by cohorts by thirty six birds. In essence, the beginning success of this experiment has allowed the project to take it a little further, and experiment with…

If they were to fly somewhere that their owner cannot reach them, or fly out of the owner’s sight, then they could begin to eat something that could be toxic to them, such as a bar of soap, or something covered in lead-based paint. Not to mention that if the bird flies up somewhere that the owner cannot reach them and begins to destroy property, not only could they hurt themselves, but it would be harmful for the relationship between the owner and the bird. Other dangers are more immediate to the eye, such as ceiling fans, windows, and pretty much anything that the bird could crash into and hurt itself…

Poultry is one of the most popular meat products in the UK. EU marketing rules require that free–range poultry farming allows chickens to run free giving them a chance to spend at least half of their day in the open air. European marketing standards require that free-range chickens have access to an open-air run in the day time & in the night time chickens are let inside to protect them from predators. The birds should have the option to go inside when weather conditions are bad. In a free-range management system a chicken’s life span is longer than caged chickens, it also causes less stress to chickens in comparison to any other management system. This system requires minimal costs, but mortalities due to predators are quite high (Mallia J. G. 1999).…
