An Analytical View of Armageddon

Films made throughout the years provided entertainment. There were classic films, such as Citizen Kane and The Grapes of Wrath, that actually taught us about life, and then there are films that are just were made for pure entertainment value. One such film, Armageddon, directed by Michael Bay, is a science-fiction, action movie that was solely used for entertainment purposes.
Armageddon is about an asteroid coming toward earth that will totally destroy mankind and the planet. No one saw the asteroid plunging towards Earth until it was too late. “Well our object collision budget’s a million dollars. That allows us to track about 3% of the sky, and beg’n pardon sir, but it’s a big-ass

His apparent use of symbolism in showing the world’s strengths and weaknesses are shown throughout the movie. He shows humanity’s need for survival and the love people have for one another. He also shows the evil side of humanity, such as martial laws being implemented in areas shown in the movie.
The focus of this film is reiterated constantly. Harry shows his love for his daughter, Grace, and friends throughout the movie by trying to make sure there will be a world left for them and people.
Bay’s success in conveying his themes are helped by his ability to master fictional and dramatic elements. His actions scenes help make this a believable story. Some nights I sleep like a baby. Other nights it’s, Oh God, I just came up with a bomb shot (Bay, 2011). Bay and the screenwriters manage to create a continual journey for these characters using action, drama, and comedy.
Another facet to the story is the emotional material. The relationships between the drill team, Harry, Grace, and her boyfriend, A.J., create more believability to the movie. The deaths of some of the team, especially Harry, shows acceptance of life and their willingness to help save the

By including symbols, Knowles shows us that he is writing much more than a classic example of a novel. Knowles includes many under themes and different tones throughout. Knowles conveys values, and suggests evil will always overpower our values. Knowles left impressions and symbols about good and evil, even going as far as making a biblical reference. The Joad family, Gatsby, and Invisible Man all have a false sense of reality as a result of their blind hope. Gatsby was under the impression that he would spend the rest of his life with Daisy. Even after she leaves him, Gatsby expects her to call. His blind hope of their unconditional love leads him to go for a swim and wait for her call there. Also, Gatsby is a wanted man during this time and is suspected of killing Myrtle. There is no logic in his decision to go for a swim out in the open when Myrtle’s husband, Wilson, is on a manhunt for him. Gatsby’s love for Daisy was so strong that he was unable to realize his poor decision. Similarly, in Grapes of Wrath, when the Joad family is taking shelter in a barn, they encounter a dying…

This assignment allowed me the opportunity to use my sociological perspective to analyze the film ‘The Grapes of Wrath'. The Grapes of Wrath is a book made into a movie, based on the great depression of the 30's. It follows the Joad family, who has been forced off their family farm by the government, as they try to find a new settlement and head west to California after receiving flyers for high wage work in fruit orchards. This true story does an outstanding job portraying society, and holds numerous examples any Sociologist can study.…

Even though it seems to be aimed at a specific age-related target audience, there are many characters throughout the whole film that viewers can relate to. And that in return keeps you very intrigued, interested, and ultimately, entertained. As a viewer, the most prolific symbolism in the whole film was the metaphoric infinite abyss. As a viewer, the infinite abyss to me represents life in general, the meaning of life. Life can be a deep dark bottomless pit, you can either succumb to it, and it swallows you up, and takes you down, or you can choose, to stand at the top and scream down at it in defiance, and pave your own paths in life, and fill that abyss with meaning, purpose, friendships, family, happiness and love. When you change the way you view the world, you change everything that happens to you within it. Life is just a state of…

The motion picture is known to be as probably one of the world’s most famous and highly-rated films, with its remarkable scenes, and use of literary devices. Director, star, and producer of the film were all the duty of one man by the name of Orsen Welles. He stars as Charles Foster Kane, who was ripped away from his parents during childhood, then went on to live a very lavish lifestyle, but never knew what real happiness was. Throughout Citizen Kane, Welles presents the idea of the American Dream as living a rich and prosperous lifestyle, but illustrates at how unsatisfactory that this “dream” really is through the use of lighting, sound,…

Symbolic codes include how the heroes become victims of terrorism; they went through ‘hell’ and yet they still managed to keep going, risking their own lives and safety for the people of their city. Another symbolic code used in the film is the filming of people donating food and other supplies to the fire fighters to show their support and thanks for what they were doing to help save them. This use of symbolism provokes viewers to feel the same way towards the ‘real life’ heroes in their society today – supportive and thankful.…
