The Army Personnel Services Detachment (APSD) does not present any form glass ceiling for women. This is primarily due to the nature and make up of the organization. The APSD is a military organization and the highest ranking officer in its composition is a captain. Currently, the US Army is having tremendous success in keeping equitable promotion opportunities in the junior officer ranks. A methodology must be made and executed to make a society of differing qualities that pervades each office and capacity of the association. The concept of Diversity and obtaining its 'true' understanding continues to shape and reshape organizational culture globally. Article written by R. Roosevelt Thomas on Redefining Diversity, broadens the general knowledge of diversity within the workplace and our everyday lives. In fact, in the early 1990s studies were done to determine the meaning of diversity. For example, in 1997 the National Naval Research Council defined diversity as the presence of a significant number of women, members of underrepresented racial groups, and persons with disabilities throughout the organization (National Research Council Staff. Looking at me you might wonder what I could possibly understand about diversity – middle class white male, college educated, married with two children, a boy and a girl. These broad generalizations describe me, but they do not define me; just as similar ones about others are equally uninformative. They note apparent features while failing to capture inherent uniqueness. To me, diversity encompasses respect and acceptance, concepts defined by actions taken to recognize and understand individuality, not simple toleration of obvious differences. Although I do not write articles or participate in protests demanding change, I quietly respect the dignity of individuals and value their perspectives. The public services have multiple ways of showing how they go about promoting a diverse work force within the military, health service and police force. The first that I would like to pin point is that they have a way of approaching the black minority’s ethnic alongside the LGBT communities, religion or beliefs and gender. As they try to incorporate more people into the military by means of newspapers, social media for example advertisements with different cultures interlinked talking about their experiences and hosting open days or setting up conferences that can be searched via the web making it more aware for the average person to see what it would be like if they joined the army and in regards to the support that is being offered if they require it.
