The Army’s equal opportunity programs mission is as said here “The Equal Opportunity (EO) program formulates, directs, and sustains a comprehensive effort to maximize human potential to ensure fair treatment for military personnel, family members, and civilians without regard to race, color, gender, religion, or national origin, and provide an environment free of unlawful discrimination and offensive behavior.” The mission of the equal opportunity is pretty clear to myself. The program protects everyone in the army no matter what race, sex, religious preference, etc. from discrimination from anyone. The equal opporunity program is considered a commanders program. They should be able to point out discrimination against a soldier and do what needs to be done to fix the problem. Eliminating discrimination inside units allows for greater trust within the unit, higher moral, unit cohesion, and a stronger unit as a whole. The equal opportunity program has a diversity roadmap that has 5 main goals. Goal one: Ensure leader commitment to diversity and inclusion practices at all levels of the army. Goal two: institutionalize talent management processes that identify, recruit, develop and retain a cadre of high performing soldiers and civilians from diverse backgrounds. Goal three: Establish and resource a structure to support the army diversity roadmap. Goal four: Implement diversity training and educational programs that develop socio-cultural competencies to meet the demands of the twenty first century expeditionary force. And Goal five: Create and maintain an inclusive environment where the value of diverse knowledge experiences and backgrounds enhances mission readiness. Now to expand on the goals. The roadmap also has its own definition of diversity, a mission, and its own vision. The roadmaps definition of diversity is “ the different attributes, experiences and backgrounds of our soldiers, civilians and family members that further enhance our global capabilities

    The concept of Diversity and obtaining its 'true' understanding continues to shape and reshape organizational culture globally. Article written by R. Roosevelt Thomas on Redefining Diversity, broadens the general knowledge of diversity within the workplace and our everyday lives.
