Now then, how the concept of leadership plays in the US Army? Leadership for the US Army is “influencing people by providing purpose motivation, and direction while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization.” U.S. Army Leader (App. A- Leader Attributes and Core Leader Competencies; A-1). According to Army FM 6-22 “Army Leadership: Competent, Confidents, and Agile”, a leader has to have three basic goals: to lead others, to develop the organization and its individual members, and to accomplish the mission. In order to Army leaders meet these goals, the Leadership Requirements Model outlines the attributes and competencies that every single one of them must have. “Attributes describe the leaders that the Army wants. Attributes describe how an individual behaves and learns within an environment. Leading is all about reaching others, and influencing them to take initiative. As a leader you have the function of transmitting a global and integrated vision, show confidence to the group, and guide and mobilize people to complete the objectives. You also have to encourage and maintain the interest of the group despite the obstacles and crisis that can be found throughout the work. The leader should use the full potential of its staff and distribute the work equally. In other to have success as a leader, a good work environment needs to be establish. Developing a good environment can be achieve by promoting the open dialogue and a solid communication. Once a good work environment is established, developing soldiers and future leaders is the next point in the list. By developing other –supporting their professional and personal growth- the leaders are setting up the organization for success in a long run; «Leaders will create leaders, who in a future will create even more leaders».
