Arnold Palmer Hospital The flowchart that Diane designed is perfect. Diane’s flowchart explains the process in detail of how Arnold Palmer Hospital began the procedure. Being Diane’s new assistant, we can improve the flowchart by being more precise. The flowchart can be presented in small point and explain the process and flow of maternity patients. The flowchart can also be classified into the birth mothers having complications and mothers having zero complications, so any caretaker of the birth mother can read the criteria. The information regarding the floors like registration, labor and triage room, the delivery room should be mentioned in a different way or highlighted so, the birth mother’s relative or caretaker don’t have problems locating them in the hospital. Flowchart
Step 1 – Entrance to labor & delivery room
Step 2 – If the baby is born en route or the birth is imminent; they are registered, taken to bedside
Step 3 – If the baby is not born yet, the front desk asks the mother for preregistered, for this they have to go to the registration office located on the 1st floor of the hospital
Step 4 – The pregnant mother is taken to Labor & delivery Triage located on the 8th floor for assessment
Step 5 – If mother is ready for delivery, she is sent to the Labor & Delivery room on the 2nd floor until the baby is born
Step 6 – If the mother is not ready to deliver, she is sent home to return on a later date & reenter the system at that time
Step 7 – When the baby is born and no complications, the mother and baby are transferred to a mother-baby care unit room on floors 3, 4, or 5 for 40-44 hours
Step 8 – If the birth mother has complications, she is taken to an operation room or ICU unit. Complications for the infant should be kept in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NIUC) before

I always address any issues regarding delayed transfer and receiving babies from other hospital as ex utero transfer and inutero transfer. I always communicate well with obstetric team and paediatric team regarding bed status. We have many long-term patients who can stay for up to 4 months, so it can be difficult and frustrating when we need to urgently admit patients but don't have a bed to do so. It requires a lot of juggling and moving of patients within short-term beds both within our directorate and other wards.…

It is therefore important to provide reassurance and communication with the family members around and assure them you will explain everything as soon as the baby is stable (Women’s and Children’s Health Network 2015). In Amira’s situation her father, Hassan, has accompanied her during the transfer to SCBU so it is important to involve him in the care as much as practical and maintain continuous communication (Women’s and Children’s Health Network 2015). When time permits, it can be useful to use supplemental verbal and visual materials to aid in successful communication, visual aids can be especially helpful when there is a language barrier (Meeks, M, et al., 2013). Hassan should be encouraged to ask questions by the midwives caring for Amira if he is unsure about anything such as procedures or the plan for Amira’s care (Women’s and Children’s Health Network…

Arrival and departure procedures help to safeguard children because it means people can't just walk into the placement and get to the children. Parents and carers must ring the door bell for the room the child they are collecting is in and the staff come out to meet them and identify them. If the member of staff doesn't know the person collecting the child, they cannot allow them to take the child. If a new person is collecting the child, the child's primary carer should inform the nursery and, usually, a password is used to ensure they are the right person to be collecting that child.…

Other models of care including obstetric models place less emphasis on continuity of care and therefore marginalize the mother’s holistic health. For example public obstetric care still provides the mother with antenatal care but the mother could see a different obstetrician each time she has a check up. This results in no form of relationship with the team who will deliver her baby, which affects the mothers social and emotional health determinants. Birthing centers contrast this model by providing the same team of midwives throughout the entire pregnancy. This method therefore heightens the mother’s confidence in her team and all members of the team have an understanding of the mother choices rather than duplicating information as seen in shared maternity care.…

Every year, more than three million infants are born in the United States. For the mother, one of the most important things is bringing the baby out from the womb safely into the world. The majority of women choose to birth their children in hospitals with doctors, mainly because it is believed that hospitals are the safest environment to birth a child. Others, decide to stick to what they consider a more natural option: at home births with midwives. Whatever the situation may be, the mothers have their child’s best interest at hand. The fact of the matter is, no matter how well one plans, and no matter how excellent a medical professional may be, sometimes complications are inevitable. Historically midwives did not have to be doctors, because…
