He seems to be just in his room thinking and wondering what he is doing. One thing that I see is his beard, it is shaped like a goatee almost and is in the triangular shape like the devil. This shows how he is slowing turning into the devil and getting more evil and less with good, even though he might not know. Also how there is only one candle left burning in this whole room showing how he is going into the darkness from the light. The technique used in this painting is again lighting and wondering what he is doing in his study. One more thing is Faust is his study but is not reading. Next to him I see Mephistopheles, and I know that is Mephistopheles because of his bone like legs and spikes on his head. What I think is Mephistopheles is putting all these bad thoughts and dreams into Faust’s head and it is corrupting his brain. I am not sure why there is green on his cape and why he even has a cape. This pictures a different technique then the other pictures because there is no background or light only 2 figures and a connection between them. This pictures was drawn by Salvador Dali and it looks more modern that his time period.
In these three painting I can see a few similarities and differences. One similarity is how there is Faust and the devil in each picture in some form. Another one is how all three show the struggle Faust is going though. A difference is the first one is the start the second one is he middle and the third one is the end of Faust and his
