1. What is one of the chief purposes of the act of drawing? One chief purpose is preliminary study. The artist experiments with different approaches to their work.
2. What is a cartoon? Give an example of a cartoon from the text. It is a drawing done to scale for painting or fresca. An example is Madonna with Child with St Ann and Infant John the Baptist, by Leonardo.
3. Drawing materials are usually divided into what two categories? They are either dry media like chalk or pastel, and wet media like ink.
4. Describe briefly the process of metalpoint. Give an example of metalpoint from your text.Metal point is when a metal stylus is applied to paper with a mixture of white lead and bum water. This is seen in Leonardo da Vinci’s The study of a womans’s head or the angel of Virgine delle Rocce.
