People always say that when children are abused that they see nothing but how they were raised, that they will grow up in the same situations, making the same mistakes and abusing others too. Many adults as children are abused and still move live on to have a normal perspective on life like any other person that wasn’t abused. People can see other perspectives on life due to their surroundings, most children stay curious about the world and wonder what goes on outside their homes, this is when the community comes into play and also friends too. People are able to see that what goes on in their homes isn’t like others, so they try to escape the situations. Arthur Radley in the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” was abused as a child, yes he was a troublemaker but at the same time his family neglected him. Mayella lied to the court to save herself and her father. Mayella for her actions would have been looked down on from people of the town and her father would be put in jail for abuse. “I positively did,” Mayella echoed her father (Lee 242.) This shows she doesn’t know any better than to lie to save herself and her dad. Mayella echoed her father’s footsteps and at nineteen years old she still shows she really doesn’t stand much of a chance in life because no one ever helped her learn anything different than to always think of herself before others.
