A highly motivated, confident, mature, positive thinking and experienced GDC registered dental nurse with 6 years experience at Gohil Dental Practice. I have excellent time-management, teamwork, planning/organising and communication skills. Having gained experience of working with a vast range of age groups I have now decided to move up the career ladder. I am hoping to increase my knowledge and skills and do further courses such as oral health and hygienist.

At my current workplace I am the most experienced member of staff. As a dental nurse it is my duty to keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practice’s health and safety and infection control procedures. I also provide chairside assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment is available for the dentist. In addition to this I carry out routine safety checks, order stocks, check emergency drugs and train new potential staff. In addition to normal dental nurse responsibility and duties I also cover reception and take care of most paper works. I am also required to work at other practice locations from time to time, attend and participate in practice meetings and training sessions.

I have also been registered with GDC since 2008, for which I have been undertaking a number of trainings course throughout the years to count towards CPD. As I am registered I am familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal and etc.

I feel I would do well in further courses as I have the experience and knowledge and furthermore able to communicate in different language. I can speak and write English, Gujarati and Hindi. I understand that this career is demanding and challenging but it will also be rewarding. Therefore I look forward to this challenge.

The nurse delegated tasks to aides which was expected. Two patients asked the nurse if she could help them change their brief and the nurse was busy in a med pass and told the patient that she would get their aid. We spent the first hour of the shift going over the diabetic patients and finding out what their sugar levels were to be able to properly prioritize the most critical patient before dinner. The LPN that I shadowed did not fill the expectation of cleanliness however. She did not wash her hands once during the shift or between patients (including insulin injections, CBS, and medication pass). This made me really disappointed and I do not want to be a nurse like that. During the middle of the shift there was a call over the speakers that a nurse was needed outside (patients smoke) and we were the…
