Article Summary: Should Kids Do Extreme Sports?
Some kids prefer extreme sports over team sports because extreme sports are what they know and love. Kids should do extreme because kids are more imaginative, keeps them from drugs, and gives opportunities to kids that don't like team sports. In the article “Should Kids Do Extreme Sports?” the author, Lauren Tarshis, “Kids can be more imaginative because they are free to experiment and invent their own stunts.” This means that when kids invent their own moves they stretch out their imagination. This also means that extreme sports are good for kids. Tarshis stated that a dad of two kids that participate in extreme sports said, “The grit they’ve acquired has helped them in school and enabled them to avoid risks like drugs or alcohol.”

In this essay “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” written by Jessica Statsky, Statsky states, “When overzealous parents and coaches impose adult standards on children's sports, the result can be activities that are neither satisfied nor beneficial to children’”(Statsky 236). Should the children be able to experience the fun, or should they feel pressured by their parents, coaches and etc? I believe the young children in between the ages of six and twelve should be able to experience the fun in sports and other activities. If the children are to worried about winning and as well as their parents they are going to feel all this pressure on them and that is not healthy. Being in a sport and taking it way to seriously than you…

These sports can leave deep marks on children’s personality and disrupt them for the rest of their lives. “Children Need to Play, Not Compete” by Jessica Statsky is an explanation as to why children sports need to be less competitive. The stress of winning seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on. Children are losing the love for sports because the fun is slowly but surely being taken away. Statsky states that, “even when children are not injured, fear of being hurt detracts from their enjoyment of the sport.” There are also psychological issues, which shouldn’t be a problem children have to deal with. Sports should be somewhat of an outlet, an escape for children to enjoy themselves apart from their everyday life, not an added stress. As Statsky ads, “Winning and losing may be an inevitable part of adult life, but they should not be a part of childhood.” Childhood is a time for making memories, participating in things that make children happy, and enjoying their time. Instead of stressing about winning, practicing, losing, making the team, and getting hurt, children should purely be having fun playing the sports that they love.…

Every teenager has a sport that fits him or her and his or her personality. For instance, if a teen were the quiet, not so active type, than maybe golf would be a good sport for him or her. If there is an active, competitive, and more talkative teen, than basketball may be the perfect sport. Any sport betters anyone in or out of high school physically and most of the time mentally. First off, children should be able to play these sports because there are so many benefits to them that are so difficult to replace in other ways. One of these benefits comes from the different values learned from playing these sports. One important value that I learned from sports is the value of patience. Playing on teams my whole life, I have learned that people will mess up and that you have to work with their mistakes. An example of a parent believing the benefits of their children learning important values outweighs the costs comes from an article by Mark Edmundson of the Washington Post. In his article “Let your Children Play Football”, he states that there are a few different learned values that come from football.…
