During the Revolutionary War, the americas were working under a makeshift constitution called, “The Articles of Confederation”. In few words the articles were, unsustainable and foolhardy. The Articles of Confederation stated that congress cannot,” coin money, nor regulate the value thereof,” This is among the greatest flaws of the Articles. Without regulated money, states suffered from inflation of money and trade suffered due to different tariffs instilled upon it. They wanted to create a document that would not only serve its purpose for their generation but also future generations. However, as with all political endeavors, there were some arguments as to who should have basic human rights. Whilst some believed in equality , most believed in the power of the rich, white man. Thus the Constitution was mainly written about them. Most notable among these decisions was the three- fifths compromise. “ Representatives shall be determined by adding the number of free persons.. Three fifths of other persons.(slaves)” This attitude reflects the ideals of society at the time. But, luckily for us, the constitution is not set in stone.
