Drive and Determination
A Dream of mine has always been to graduate from college or university,
I grew up in an economically challenged household in Mazatlan, Mexico. There were seven of us children, four girl and three girls. Growing up in Mexico, it was extremely difficult for me to understand the differences among the classes and where my family belong in the world.
Popularity, status, and education levels where strongly based on how much money a family had.
No one in my family has earned a degree, high school or otherwise. I will like to become the first one.
Since the age of thirteen, I have always wanted to be involved with art in some way or another. I was first inspired by my older brother, who loved to draw cartoon figures and tattoos.
Following his lead, I got into painting with watercolor pencils, making figures of women in an abstract way, combining graphics and various bright colors. These paintings allowed me to express my feelings and thoughts growing up in an under privileged home.
After being the first person in my family to complete high school, I desired more and wanted further education by attending art school in Mexico, although we were not available to afford it.
Due to our economic sate, instead of attending a college, I followed my sister around a her work.
She was a journalist photographer a local newspaper in Mazatlan, Mexico. This was where my passion for photography began. My sister wanted me to work with her, knowing that I had no experience in photography at all; there she taught me the basics of dark room, and how develop film.
After struggling for many years, I finally had the opportunity to come to the United States, receiving my residence at the age of thirty-five, there was my dream starting becoming true, of getting a better education on my field.
I immediately enroll in school to further my passion for photography and graphic design.
