I enjoyed this book by Bell Hooks far more than I did Creative Schools by Ken Robinson. I thought this author had a better ability to lay out her thoughts and explain to the reader more efficiently her ideas. The chapters were fifty percent shorter as well, which helped the reading feel less drawn out and lengthy. The author did a better job providing examples from her life that related to the subject than Robinson did, although they were also rather lengthy. Creative Schools tended to have the examples seem more like tangents rather than supporting a point unlike this book so far. Although the Hooks’ experiences were valid, at some parts the story felt a little overwhelming with the larger vocabulary usage and the overuse of the word “pedagogy.”…

The National Education Association is an organization that offers education support to the youth and offers many programs such as bullying prevention. Recently, I completed an internship at the N.E.A, and during my internship I helped educate adolescents about the bystander effect of bullying and encourage them to be a part of the movement to end it. Throughout the internship I mentored students and gave them constructive advice on how to handle bullying at their schools.…

Have you ever thought about how difficult it is for a baby to be born without low birth weight, prematurity, or birth defects? After visiting the March of Dimes website I learned that over 460,000 newborns in the United States alone are born prematurely. I am a parent of a premature infant and I know firsthand how hard it is to get find answers and get assistance for a disabled child. I gave birth to my son at only 23 weeks of gestation. He was severely underdeveloped and required many surgeries. With the assistance of supportive organizations and medical research, the lifesaving surgeries were performed immediately. Afterwards I researched to find out just what organizations helped to fund the research needed for the surgery my child had undergone. I found that the March of Dimes, Mother’s March and WalkAmerica were just three of the well-known organizations in the United States, and around the world, that funded such research. Each of these organizations main focus is putting an end to prematurity and each work to make their name known through their individual websites.…

Activity in the arts is paramount; it the processes by which people make or create art forms, without activity the arts would not exist. Galway City is a prime example of a place where art activity is thriving in a small peripheral town with little infrastructure. Galway is a very isolated city; there is one railway station, with one destination, no airport, and a harbour which has not been updated since the 19th Century. Galway when looked at from this perspective seems an abysmal place, however it is from its proximity to nature (The Burren, Connemara, Coole Park, Lough Corrib, and more), world class heritage…

For 3 years I was required to take take speech therapy during the school days because of my speech impediment. At the time I had no clue that only certain students, like me, were required to take this class. I just thought it was a class to sound out funny words and eat snacks, not knowing that I had a speech impediment. While in this class the teacher would make fridays ‘board game day’ and on this day she would pick a leader to instruct the group of how to play. Being the shy child that I was, I resented this day because I was almost always the leader. As the years went on and the end of my time in this class came to a near, I had begun to break out of my shell. On the very last day of this class I was yet again voted as the leader but this time was different because I wanted to lead and let my voice be heard.…

    The Gallup Poll

When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or most Americans are equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all national polling. The actual target audiences, referred to as "national adults", are aged 18 and over, living in telephone households within the United States. What I don 't understand is that Gallup excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners, hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are unfair. The article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places mentioned above is because of the difficulty in reaching the institutionalized population. The article claims that this compromise is necessary, but I think they are over-looking people that have every right and to participate in a sampling of American "national adults".…

Arts elements and design principles are a key component of visual arts education. When developing understanding of the language of visual arts the elements and principles are the building blocks (Dinham, 2014). The design principles refer to the balance, rhythm and repetition, proportion and scale, contrast and emphasis and pattern of an artwork and are created through the use of the arts elements, line, colour, shape, texture and value. The development of visual arts language is key to developing students’ ability to reflect and respond. The Australian Curriculum: The Arts (2013) states, through visual arts education students develop the ability to critically reflect on their own personal experiences and respond to the artworks of artist,…

It is observed in the recent years that most of the organizations in the market fail when it comes to executing the strategy that they had panned initially. There is a failure percentage of 80% - 90% when it comes to the implementation of the strategy; this has been reported by various sources (Chris Zook, 2010). The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (2012) states that for interior review to stay important, it ought to adjust to changing desires and keep up arrangement with the association's targets. The internal audit methodology is crucial to staying applicable - assuming a vital part in attaining the harmony in the middle of expense and quality, while making genuine commitments to the association’s general administration, hazard administration, and interior controls.…
