The narrator also encounters an interior conflict. He loves study and want to go back school. However, his father’s example let him feel he is liable to assist his father fishing. "I thought it was very much braver to spend a life doing what you really do not want rather than selfishly following forever your own dreams and inclinations" With this realization he decides to give up his "silly shallow selfish dream" of completing high school to enter into tradition and…

Since individuals in this society are known to be one whole, no spontaneous bursts of intelligence and creativity are allowed. In Anthem, Ayn Rand demonstrates how human nature could affect the individual, “We have made a bow and many arrows. We can kill more birds than we need for our food; we find water and fruit in the forest. At night, we choose a clearing, and we build a ring of fires around it. We sleep in the midst of that ring, and the beasts dare not attack us” (Rand 84). Based on this quote, the main character runs away from his dystopian society so that he could finally be in charge of his own life and he manages to somehow use his natural instincts in order to survive. Since he is no longer allowed back into the society that he has always lived in, he resorts to doing what he believes is right in order to survive in the forest by himself. K. Buvaneswari and Dr. B. R. Veeramani discuss human nature in Anthem by stating, “…individual persons form values of their own not in the name of society” (241). Equality 7-2521 and the Golden One present the factor of human nature in the novel by showing their own beliefs and values not induced by their society. For example, they both manage to collect food on their own instead of normally being supplied food in the City. In addition, both of the characters figured out their own virtues by realizing that they loved each other even though it was forbidden. Philip Gordon presented in his article, “Crucial discoveries, of man and nature can only be made by ‘a man of intransigent mind,’ whose theme, to be sung in Rand’s subsequent novels of ‘rational self-interest,’ is typically simplistic…” The article describes if a man is stubborn enough to go against himself or his own human nature, he could discover something within him. This is related to the novel because the main…
The way a person was raised and the things they have experienced can change their objectives in life, and in addition the way they see the world. These different perceptions of reality are the main reasons why humans all have so many diverse aspirations and dreams, regardless of how modified they may be due to the circumstances. Jing Chen, Phil Alden Robinson, and John Steinbeck all saw precisely how a person's backgrounds can influence their fantasies; and by using the rhetorical device of paradox they passed on that learning to a variety of readers through their literary works.…

Towards the final scene of the book, I notice something that is both relevant in my current life experiences as well as today’s society. Nick Carraway moves back home to the slower paced state of Minnesota, because he’s honestly not made to be a New Yorker. Nothing’s wrong with that, New York isn’t for everybody. However, this part of the book is incredibly valid, almost 100 years later. This past summer when I was looking at colleges, I made the realization that not every place is made for me. When I went and visited some colleges, I went in thinking I’d really like being there for four years, but after being their for a couple hours, I’ve realized this wasn’t the case. Nick had the same realization, it only took much longer. I think that…

00–36,000 years ago.[4][6] Dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "man's best friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, however, dogs are also a source of meat.[7][8] In 2001, there were estimated to be 400 million dogs in the world.[9]…
