These disabilities can pronounce themselves throughout the infant’s life depending on when they were diagnosed with a failure to thrive. These difficulties could be mild and treatable or they could range to more severe and untreatable depending on how long the infant was failing to thrive and what the reasoning behind the failure was. These developmental difficulties could extend throughout the infant’s entire life, and cause significant challenges in the individual’s everyday life. Sometimes the main indicator of developmental disabilities is the failure to reach academic developmental milestones that teachers and other educators are trained to notice that the parents may not catch. This poor academic performance could stem from the lack of socialization from other infants and children during their early years, or may also be a part of the lack of nutritional diet that the infant may have had that contributed to the failure to thrive diagnosis.
This is obviously not the sole reason for a failure to thrive diagnosis, nor is it always the parents’ or caregiver’s faults that the infant is not receiving enough nutrients.
