Ashley Pelt's The Broken Pitcher
I figured out the themes of each story. Because in the broken pitcher she finds a fairy and the pitcher turns into a live pitcher only for the Cinderella Character. The theme is important in some things but not everything is. The theme is Friends are always there for you. Another theme is in the other story Ashley Pelt. The theme is Never give up because she doesn't give up when she wanted to go to the party and she got to go. She had fun at the party but she had to leave before 12 o’clock. The Values for the poems are Trust your friends in The Broken Pitcher because she needed to because it was the only friend she would get. In Ashley Pelt the value is Be truthful and don't hide because she didn't tell him she was there until the last minute.

At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I have selected “The Last Drop.” The painting was painted by Judith Leyster on 1609. It is done in oil on canvas and the size of the painting is almost the same like any others that about a foot wide, length and width. The condition of the painting seems to be in a new condition, as if the painting was never touched at all. The texture of this painting have a smooth and rigid touch to it. The painting is consisted of one man is sitting on a chair binge drinking that looks like an alcoholic beverage, the second man is seen standing wearing a flamboyant dress as he is seen dancing while smoking and holding a cup, as he seems to ignore the first guy. The third one is a skeleton lurking behind the man drinking,…

The argument in Alexandra Robbins, The Overachievers, is why should many high school students get pressured or feel the need to take all AP classes or do extracurricular activities so they can get into an Ivy League college & be successful. Alexandra Robbins tells us about the lives of nine students when they were attending Whitman high school. Many parents pressure their children to be on top of all their classmates, but really teachers, parents, and even students don’t know what the overachievers go through.…

A short story and poem, no matter how structurally different, are two literary pieces where a rich story is embedded. Readers are drawn towards these scripts by means of rhythm (poem), characterization, or a fictional setting in their respective narratives. However, the mere script would not make it entertaining enough to hold the reader’s attention. It would depend on the imagination of the readers as they are reading the story as to what they take from it. Every reader has their own way of visualizing the descriptions and symbolism used by the author. It is through imagination that the readers are able to interpret what the author is trying to depict within the symbolism and other descriptive languages. The beauty of stories and poems is that they are generated and created through the readers own imagination which consequently allows each individual reader to build their own personal connection with the literary piece. The two literary pieces “The Road Not Taken” (poem) and the short story “A Worn Path” are different in terms of actual writing styles, however they both share the same theme which is every person’s journey is greatly governed by their decisions and no matter how many paths there may be, it is still the choices that the person makes that determine the ending of his or her journey. Each one conveys a theme of life journeys and the challenges and struggles that go along with those journeys. In “The Road Not Taken” it is the journey one must make while trying to choose the right path in life. One path seemingly offers a more familiar road and perhaps the easier of the two. The other path is clearly been less traveled upon, yet yearns to be. In “A Worn Path” the journey that one woman takes on in order to care for her sick grandchild is unfolded. It is…

I enjoyed these two readings because they really bring memories to mind. While reading these stories, I can relate my own experiences to them, like having an item of value that someone I love has given me, or even getting meaningful advice from someone who loves me. These readings are fun and playful; they let you use your imagination with the descriptive detail and comparing them to animals and textures used. They really bring you into the…

The poem deviates from the basic fairy tale through the use of ironic predicaments. Cinderella makes a bold statement from the beginning: “First of all, I’m bored” (1). She misses her old life of feeling useful through cleaning. As a princess, she sits around all day listening to complaints and sewing. The mistress tells her problems to Cinderella. Cinderella agrees that the mistress is being mistreated, even though Cinderella herself was mistreated. Mistreatment should not be a major dilemma in a fairy tale. Cinderella also writes, “The plumbing is appalling” (12). A palace with crumby plumbing is the last thing expected in a fairy tale palace. The prince is also causing conflict. Cinderella writes, “he is forever brooding on lost choices he might have made; before / three days had passed. I’d heard, midnight to dawn, / about the solitary life he craved” (13-16). The prince wanted to find a bride, yet he regrets the decisions he made. From midnight to dawn, Cinderella listens to him crave for his single life back. Like midnight in the original tale, the happily ever after ends and the real world begins as the prince shows his true self through his thoughts after midnight. The state of affairs in the palace show the mundane life that Cinderella experiences everyday. The irony within the poem refutes the perfect fairy tale and reveals Cinderella’s mistake of believing in…

The themes are similar in the aspect that they both are reflections of the past. Grape Sherbet demonstrates a form of this feeling of a memory when it begins by stating the day, Memorial. This is a clear indication of reminiscence because of the purpose of the holiday. The poem My Papas Waltz also has a theme closely related theme. Although the reader may be skeptical and even concerned about the speakers father, it is revealed to us that the event was enjoyable and memorable. The speaker clings to the memory of the father and the times that he was with the speaker. The themes in both poems are comparable with similar points dealing with theme. Part of the theme is affected by the tone of poems.…

The one poem I found interesting was "Cinderella" by Anne Sexton. I expected the poem to just be a fancy version of the princess tale Cinderella which everyone knows that story. I expected it to be boring and everything I already knew about the fairytale. But this version was a more grim tale of the orginal. The beginning really hooks you with all the little stories about the plumber winning the sweekskates, the nursemaid marring the prince, and the milkman buying into real estate. All these people started out with nothing and unexpectly got wealthy, just like Cinderella. Throughout the story, Anne Sexton uses means of exxagartions. For example, she says " Whenever she wished for anything the dove would drop it like an egg upon the ground."…

Poem—write one long poem (at least 30 lines) or at least three short poems (totaling at least 30 lines) in the form of your choosing about the story, a theme from the story, or one or more of the characters. The poem can be from your own perspective or it can be from the perspective of one of the characters—for example, Lennie is writing the poem or George, etc. (I don’t want elementary school rhyming “roses are red/violets are blue/Lennie is sweet/and George is, too.” —I want thought and insight.)…

These stories help us understand the true meaning behind these letters. For example, the goldfish story that is told by Mr. Ashland. Even though it seems foolish to tell such a story, it helps give the reader a more thorough understanding of who Bud is. The story makes him real, almost touchable, as we can see the way he thinks and his humor. “There was one goldfish for each twin…they were exactly alike…[and] one mourning Bud got up early, and there was one goldfish floating on the top of the water dead. So Bud went and woke up Charlene, and he said, “Hey, Charlene—your goldfish just died.” (272) This passage is also ironic, as Bud and Charlene were twins and so were the fish. It is also ironic how one of the fish dies at a young age, as Bud also dies at a youthful time. “Charlene is as close as you can get to Bud.”…
