Aspects Of Reconstruction
Reconstruction is the period of time when America was rebuilding from the Civil War in a multitude of ways. The most challenging aspect of the Reconstruction was integrating the freed slaves back into American society and how everyone wanted to go about such a monumental change. Other more minor things that happened during the Reconstruction period (1865-1876) were: rebuilding everything that was destroyed during the Civil War, readmitting all of the seceded states back into the US, and reevaluating the current currency and making sure it was still in working order.

There was a lot of debate on how much freedom the blacks should have with varying amounts of opinions which made the decision very hard. One reason the fourteenth amendment

    The Reconstruction was the period during which the United States began to rebuild after the Civil War, lasting from 1865 to 1877. It was to repair the North and the South politically, economically and socially. After the Civil War, the South’s economy was completely ruined and needed help from the Union government; which they were trying to stay way from. The Reconstruction can be evaluated both as a success and a failure. Its successes were the restoration of the eleven confederate states back to the union, giving African-Americans (ex-slaves) their freedom and rights and providing aid to the freed slaves and poor whites. Its failures were the Anti-African Americans groups such as the KKK, the Black Codes, not protecting the rights of the freedmen and the southern corruption. Although African-Americans were freed and gained their rights because of 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, and the ex-eleven confederate states came back to the union, the Reconstruction was more of a failure than a success.…

    As much as being free from slavery was a time of joy for African Americans, being truly free from slavery was not to happen for many years to come. African Americans faced many social, political, and economic obstacles after Reconstruction. The years after Reconstruction continued to foster great tension between blacks and whites. This New South was new in name only because blacks were still not afforded the same rights as whites. Although a small percentage of African-Americans found work in the new iron foundries and steel mills, they were generally barred from the textile mills that grew into the region's major industry.
