Step 1 Sustainability.
“Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs”
Step 2 My Ecological Footprint.
My ecological footprint is 3.73 per capita of which, i will need 3.73 planets if everyone lived my lifestyle. According to Brundtland’s definition of sustainable development I am not really meeting the present needs of the people and its compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own need. I need to start to start growing my own food produced by using compost instance of using fertilizers which contain chemical which might be harmful to the soil. I will start buying more organic food, using less energy to reduce my ecological footprint. It will make me feel good to know that I am doing my bit to help to find a solution the problem.
Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism holds that any action is judged as good if the act maximises the total amount of good. Wiping out half the present population to benefit the future generation or letting children to die of preventable diseases won’t make any good. If we do not change our attitude towards nature or preserving our environment our future generation we have to live with consequences of the present generation, unless we undergo drastic social transformation.
Fair is fair- Distributive Justice.
Since we are aware that we are living on savings, it will be fair for the present generation to change its lifestyle by consuming less on our savings, so that the future generation can have the chance to live on this planet. The future generation also have as much right to live on this planet as our present generation. Lets’ do our bit to save the planet earth until we find a permanent solution.
Greenies- Environmental Ethics.
The planet earth and its nature has an intrinsic value just because it has a God given right. It was here many years ago before the human evolution. At the same time it has an instrumental value to us human because it provide us with air to breathe, food to eat, water to drink to help us survive as human beings. We should protect and preserve the planet earth for the sake of our future generation.

Important as it is, the concept of sustainable development is still being developed and the definition of the term is constantly being revised, extended, and refined. According to the classical definition, given by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987, development is sustainable if it “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Social justice defined as equality of opportunities for well-being, both within and among generations of people, can be seen as having at least three aspects: economic, social, and environmental. Only development that manages to balance these three groups of objectives can be sustained for long Conversely, ignoring one of the aspects can threaten economic growth as well as the entire development process World Bank study defined sustainable development as “a process of managing a portfolio of assets to preserve and enhance the opportunities people face.”…

In today’s world it’s our responsibility as the population to create Sustainability with the earth’s resources. There are only so many resources on earth like timber, food, petroleum etc. to go around. The more that we use and take in the less it becomes available for us to consume. The world’s budget cannot indeterminately increase on a limited world. As a result the economy develops and the population grows it’s almost impossible for all natural resources not to be exhausted. Which then results to high prices, and the people specifically the poor and our impending generations no matter what social economical status they are in will suffer. Therefore, conservation needs to take action.…

We, as the human race, can peer into the past and learn of days when the world seemed endless; to a time when our population was small enough, and our technology primitive enough that it seemed we would never run out of the natural resources that we so depended on. As time has worn on, slowly but surely the world has gotten smaller. Our numbers and technology have increased to the point that we now realize our resources are indeed finite. We have formed our existences around the resources we depend on. Here in the United States of America, more than anywhere else, we have come to depend on oil. A delicate balance exists between humans, our resources, and caring for the environment. As we look toward our uncertain future, we must nurture the balance between our wants and needs, and carefully examine the decisions we are confronted with concerning our environment. We must learn to live harmoniously with the earth, examining our moral obligations, that we may preserve the future of our unique planet. This is our only home.…
