Human Resource Management (HRM) is defined as s strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organization most valued assets the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of its objectives. HRM is function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of, management of and providing direction for the people who work in organization. Effective HRM enables employees to contribute effectively and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization’s goals and objectives.
HRM is moving away from traditional personnel, administration, and transactional roles, which are increasingly outsourced. HRM is now expected to add value to the strategic utilization of employees and that employee program impact the business in measureable ways. The new role of HRM involves strategic direction and HRM metrics and measurements to demonstrate value.
The major roles of HRM are as follows: a. Reduce absenteeism: if staffs are absent from work they are not able to carry out function for which they have been employed. Reducing absenteeism is an important role of HRM. b. Motivate the Staffs: motivation is an important part in reducing staff turnover and minimizing staff absenteeism. Motivation can be done by work environment, work atmosphere and creating interest in the job of the
