The chapter ‘Law and Order Commonsense’, by Russel Hogg and David Brown, explores the seven elements that contribute to “the elements of law and order commonsense” (Hogg and Brown, 2009, p. 21). Commonsense can be defined as what we already know and our assumptions and judgments about matters. The two elements of law and order commonsense on crime that will be explained and analyzed is; how the justice system is too soft on crime and the need for tougher penalties. The first element acknowledged by Hogg and Brown is the criminal justice systems leniency towards crime and the lack of protection of citizens.
