“Honey, are you almost ready we’re going to be late.” I yelled at Jamie. “If you don’t come down soon we’re going to miss the best waves.” “Coming, sorry I was just waxing my board.” Jamie explained. He comes down looking like an orange banana. Ever since he saw that ad about having a healthy glow he wouldn’t stop putting that lotion on. The nerve that he has to lie to me. “Alright let’s go. We probably just missed the best of the waves.” I said in an irritated tone. We went in the car and rushed down. We just made it and got some pretty sick waves. A few hours later we came out of the water. Another twenty minutes and we’re dry enough to go into the car and go home. I took a shower so we could go grab a quick bite before we go to the island festival. “Jamie go take a shower now, you better hurry up and not take hours just to put that lotion on again the festival starts at seven!” I commanded him. I hear a tremendous screech from downstairs. I rushed down to see what was the screech about. All I see is Jamie on the floor glowing green and in shock. I try to sound the less anxious and worried when I say, “Umm… why are you glowing?” He looks up at me and I realize he was holding the lotion bottle. “I’m such an idiot; I should have read it before I put it on.” Jamie said talking to himself. “Mandy, on the bottle it specifically says that to stay away from salt water or less your skin will glow in an “unhealthy way”.” I look at him enormously concerned thinking the worst possible scenarios. Just when he says, “Thank goodness it’s only going to last a day.” “You are not allowed to ever out that again.” I say while taking the bottle away from him and throwing it out. “Thanks to you we miss the festival.” I whispered to myself. At less he’s going to be fine. Jamie is one chill surfer. I couldn’t see myself this calm and relaxed about his skin glowing, oh well that’s Jamie.

Dear Journal, I’m bummed out today. My friend Mandy was mad at me today

The movie I will write about is the The Purge Anarchy. I would say have more than one genre. I would say that the genres are action, horror and thriller. Action movies are movies that have a tremendous impact, continue high energy and lots of physical activities. Horror movies are unsettling movies designed to frighten and panic, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale, while captivating and entertaining us at the same time in a cathartic experience. These are types of films known to promote intense excitement, suspense, a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, and nerve-wracking tension. Thriller and suspense films are virtually synonymous and interchangeable categorizations, with similar characteristics and features.…

Even though, so called “radical thinkers,” come in all shapes and sizes and have different ideologies, would they perhaps support one another’s philosophies? Friedrich Nietzsche’s out take on Christianity is, let’s face it, quite ominous, compared to certain important historical leaders such as, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but their ideologies might not be so far off. Both Nietzsche and Dr. King were thought of as “radical thinkers,” and are still thought of as “radical thinkers” till this day, for completely separate reasons. But I believe that their motivations/motives are the reason why their views in morality are equivalent in seriousness to; fundamentally the same. Even though these two great “critical thinkers” have opposing views in certain important issues, such as Christianity, I believe that if Nietzsche were to have lived during Dr. King’s time, he would agree with certain philosophies that Dr. King had.…

The reader-response appeal to literature relies on the reader’s ability to process the information being shared rather than the author or the text itself. With the reader-response, a person reads text and then relates to automatic explanations about life that are triggered moment by moment as they continue to read. The literature uses triggers that the reader’s nervous system spontaneously responds to. This type of approach to reading allows people to imagine and be creative within them. It allows the reader to hear, feel and smell what they are reading as if it were happening right now in front of them.…

The first indoor tanning beds were developed in 1906, by a medical research company named Heraeus. The main purpose of this tanning lamp was medicinal, used on patients with calcium deficiency disorders, to see if the increased sun light would build stronger bones, and help the body produce more calcium. As time progressed, it became apparent that Heraeus was onto something big with his invention. In the early 1970 's the tanning bed’s use turned from medicinal to cosmetic, when a German scientist, Fredrick Wolff, decided to use the artificial sunlight on athletes, hoping to demonstrate that the tanning bed would increase their athletic aptitude. His timing was perfect. The golden tan was becoming a popular fashion trend, so Wolff used his acquired knowledge to tap into the fashion industry (Tanning Beds). He developed one of the greatest inventions of our time: The tanning bed. Across the nation tanning has grown to be a popular trend in our society. The deep, dark tan is a new craze sought by people, especially teens. It is that bronzed, sun-kissed outcome that instills a high sense of beauty in the person that has it. People will spend countless hours and money to acquire this wanted look, to strive for perfection. However, people overlook the long term effects that tanning does to our bodies. The government has made steps to improve peoples’ health and safety, and is starting to look at the dangers of indoor tanning. In California, the government has passed a law banning indoor tanning for adolescents. Allowing minors to tan may result in health consequences.…

For three summers I didn’t come home from my summer job smelling like grease from the local café or fresh cut mowed lawns, but I came home smelling like chlorine and tanning oil. I spent my days in a high lifeguard stand, towering over bathers enforcing rules and watching for drowning victims. I slathered on the tanning oil to get the perfect deep brown tan, and occasionally lifted my polarized sunglasses to double-check the patrons. It’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it.…
