Greek Mythology is a story about the gods. The gods are closely related to the natural phenomena of stars, rain and fog. So the astronomical words come from Greek Mythology, it became a system.The names of the planets in the solar system are almost entirely related to Greek or Roman mythology. For example:
1) Mercury
The Mercury of the planets is related to the myth of the “God of Business” and the “God of travel”. He is one of the twelve Lord Gods of Olympus in Greece. Mercury is the fastest planet. It is similar to the God of the mythology and is therefore named Mercury. It is the first planet in the Galaxy. Saturn is known for its three halos. Saturn is a god of agriculture in Roman mythology. He ranks after Jupiter. In English, we used a part of Saturn in the word “Saturday”.
The God of agriculture in Greek mythology named “Cronus”. He is the son of Uranus and Gaia, and he is also the father of Zeus (Jupiter). Saturn is the root of “Saturday” in English.
3) Uranus
Uranus was the earliest supreme god, the exemplification of heaven. He is the son of the Gaia, and the father of Titans,Cyclopes, Hekatonchires. Uranus is named after the God of Uranus from Greek mythology. Uranus is one of the nine planets of the solar system. It is ranked on the outside of Saturn and inside Neptune. It is ranked seventh, and its color is grayish blue. It is a Gas Giant. In terms of diameter, Uranus is the third largest planet in the solar system. However, Uranus ranks fourth in lighter weight than Neptune.
Uranus is "the god of heaven" or "the god of the sky" in Roman mythology. Interestingly, Uranus has many satellites. People have discovered these satellites since the 1950s. One amazing thing is that people also gave names to these satellites. And many satellite names are from Shakespeare's plays. For example, there is a satellite called “Juliet” from Romeo and Juliet; and “Ariel” in Tempest.
