First, some atheist arguments that may be brought up in the beginning is as follows: God is omnibenevolent and would thus desire to eliminate evil, and God is omnipotent and thus could eliminate evil. Evil exists in the world, thus God does not exist since evil exists. This is a common argument that may come up about the existence of evil in the world. Most of the evil in the world only occurs because we choose to create it. When God created the world he gave each individual free will instead of creating people who could not make choices of their own. The consequence of this is that some individuals may choose to abuse their freedom, but this price is worth having to pay so that human beings can have genuine freedom. Ultimately, God has his own good reasons for allowing suffering and evil to exist …show more content…
in the world. He uses the suffering and evil to accomplish a greater good for the world even if human beings never know exactly what the reason is.
A basic question an atheist might ask a Christian is can God create a rock that He cannot pick up? This question is actually a self-defeating question because the whole question is irrational. The question is simply asking if God could go into space and time to create a rock that he could not lift up and that is extremely irrational because God is outside of space and time. Also this argument does not work because if God is creating the rock there are no logical limitations on the rock, but when he lifts the rock there is a logical limitation, and thus the whole argument presupposes that there should be no logical limitations.
Now I will move into the teleological argument for God’s existence. The argument is set up in a syllogism, which states:
1. The universe has mathematically predictable patterns
2. Patterns are a component of design
3. Design requires a designer
4. Therefore the designed universe requires a designer and that designer is God.
Mathematical patterns can be observed in nature and an example of one of these patterns in the universe is the Fibonacci principles and fractals.
The Fibonacci principle is often defined as the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence starts at 0 and then the next number is found by adding the two numbers before it. This sequence is seen in sunflower through their seed arrangement; other flowers also show the Fibonacci sequence in the number of petals the flowers have. The problem is that the Fibonacci sequence found in the flowers may just be a result of the laws of physics and gravity therefore the sunflower only obtained that pattern because of gravity. Another example of the Fibonacci sequence in nature is human DNA. DNA is based on the golden section and it measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide for each full cycle of the double helix spiral, and these numbers are a part of the Fibonacci series. Trying to prove that something in gravity caused our DNA to follow this unique sequence or code is then up to the atheist, and the burden of proof is on them to show that gravity affected
this. An irrefutable pattern that is not affected by gravity is found in the reproductive system of bees. Each beehive has one female queen bee that lays the eggs. If an egg is not fertilized then it will hatch into a male bee. If a male bee fertilizes an egg, then the egg produces a female bee that doesn’t lay any eggs herself. Now looking at a generation of bees, we can see that a male bee is the product of an unfertilized female. Females need to come from fertilized females, so the bee had two parents. The male had a single female mother and that female had two parents thus making three bees. This cycle flows all the way through the generation of bees following the Fibonacci sequence all the way through. Through this argument of the bee reproduction system the teleological argument becomes irrefutable because it demonstrates a pattern in nature that is not affected by gravity and thus is a pattern on its own. By the pattern not being caused by gravity, it is evident that there is a different designer that must have formed this pattern and this designer we will call God
