Atkins diet
The Atkins Diet is a diet where you eat less carbohydrates and more fats and proteins so; your body goes into Metabolic State and starts to burn fat instead of carbohydrates. 1. Many health problems can occur including blood problems, vomiting, bad breath, constipation, kidney problems and heart attacks. The one that I will be focusing on today is the higher risk of heart attacks. According to BHF (The British Heart Foundation), when they competed a study, they found out than an additional four to five cases of cardiovascular disease where diagnosed per 10,000 women among those who had a protein-rich diet (See Reference 1). Also, they found out that if you have an Atkins style diet, your risk of having a heart attack increases by ¼ (See Reference 2). When you eat a diet which is high in saturated fat, your blood cholesterol levels rise and, when they are raised you are more likely to have a heart attack (See Reference 3). This is because the cholesterol blocks up the blood getting to the heart. If the blood doesn’t get to the heart, it cannot pump blood around the body, causing a heart attack.
Another one that I will be focusing on is constipation. The food that you eat in the Atkins diet have very little fibre in them and with less fibre, this slows down the rate of food going through the body, causing constipation (See Reference 4). Fibre speed up the passage of food through the digestive system but, if you have less of it will slow down and make it less effective, meaning you get constipation (See Reference 4+5).
Summing up the Atkins diet shows lots of different health problems, here are a few: Heart problems, Kidney Disease, Constipation, Ketosis, High Cholesterol, and Cancer. From this you can see that there are many problems with the Atkins diet and that is why it is bad as there are a few other health problems it can cause. The Atkins Diet will probably do more harm to your body than just leaving it alone. 2. The three problems with the Atkins
