In the Josef Hoffman and Koloman reading, the reading is about the Work-Program of the Weiner Werkstatte. Hoffman and Moser are two Austrian architect-designers. They were both members of the Vienna secession movement in the 1890s. they cofounded the Wiener Werkstatte, which is Viennese Workshop from 1903-1932; it was an enterprise dedicated to the ideas of Ruskin and Morris by producing equisite hand-crafted furnishings, decorative objects, textiles, jeweley and bookbindings. They remained committed to Weiner Werkstatte long after the Arts and Crafts movement.…

The original artwork of the Mona Lisa was painted on a wood known as poplar wood. The Mona Lisa is an admirable work of art, due to every detail being exemplified within the painting itself. The face represents a sense of modeling while also appearing to be realistic. Leonardo da Vinci worked on this painting, along with many others, by being patient and creative: he first applied a few layers of coating onto a wooden panel, then he began drawing his central theme right onto his work of art because he then began drawing it in oil, applying turpentine which happened to not be as strong, and allowed him to draw on countless coatings of translucent color, better known for the term glaze, and to ceaselessly redesign the face. The transparent color increases the effects on the face with the way the shaded area is distinctively opposite to the area of the face that happens to contain light. The reason that this method of painting is applied on artworks is so that it can allow the ideal replica of a person’s skin, because of delicate treatment of how a person is supposed to look like transmitted into some sort of shaded entity, which allowed Leonardo to content his fixation with authenticity.…

I have broken up the 10 personalities in 2 groups with 2 posters. One group on one poster is “Musica y Los Bailes.” In that group, I put 5 of the 10 personalities I have to choose for my project. The 5 personalities I chose for this group are Reggaeton, Bachata, Aventura, Celia Cruz, and Fulanito. I love music so that’s why I wanted to make a separate poster for it. The other group on the other poster is “Hispanics.” On this poster I have my other 5 personalities from the 10. I chose Dolores Huerta, Melquiades Martinez, Eva Mendes, Selena, and Sammy Sosa. Here are my 10 paragraphs for my 10 personalities.…

The first two pictures that are being compared are Shirin Neshatb “Allegience with Wakefulness” 1994 and Jasper Johns “Three Flags” 1958. In the “Allegience with Wakefulness” is instrumentalist. It is instrumentalist because it is the writing on this person’s feet is not English and there is a gun between the person’s feet. This might be taken as things that are different from what we are used to be taken as threat. American people in general have a closed minded way of looking at things. The other aesthetic perspective for this art piece that are noted is linguistic. Linguistic are has symbols as well and the gun could also be seen as a symbol. It has words written in it too specifically on the feet. This artistic piece is powerful because it can have so many meanings to it and can mean many things to many different people. “Three Flags” is a linguistic painting. It is obvious that this is a linguistic painting because it is the American flag. The American flag is tied strongly to American culture. It is a symbol of our freedom. Imitationist is the next aesthetic perspective that is seen in this paper, obviously because it looks just like the American flag. The American flag looks like it is popping of the page because of the way they get smaller as they move forward. Both of these art pieces have a strong message behind them. The first one, “Allegience with Wakefulness” has a language in it that most Americans would not be able to understand. It also has a gun which could mean a lot of different things in this particular picture. The second picture “Three Flags” is pretty much the opposite of that. It is very recognizable for everyone in the American culture. It stands for freedom our freedom.…

Olmec arts and their iconography are full of mysteries. Many archeologists researched and worked their best to figure out the meaning behind in each different symbol and leave many writing about Olmec arts and their symbol means. The Statue of Kaipunesut dates back to the fourth dynasty in the Old Kingdom of Egypt. It was excavated at Saqqara, a vast burial ground. This specific piece was located at the mastaba of Kaemheset, which was Kaipunesut’s brother. It was carved out of acacia wood which is a native timber of Egypt. The native wood did not create the highest standard of sculpture because it was knotty and fibrous which made it difficult to use. The wood was usually painted with bright colors; the body was most likely a reddish/brown color. Although most of this sculpture was preserved, the paint wore off long ago. His belt has his name and “Royal Carpenter” inscribed which suggested his occupation. It is possible that he was involved with making his own wooden statues. Sculptures based on royalty was made with hard stone to last forever while others of less importance were sculpted with various materials that were not necessarily meant to last.…

"Keep this Horror from Your Home," an American propaganda poster produced during World War II, uses many visual and textual elements to encourage Americans to buy war bonds by portraying the Japanese as rapists. The author of the piece is unknown, but it is obvious that the creator of the poster carefully chooses the color, patterns, scale, text, and representation of the piece to send a very strong social and political message. There is little doubt that the underlying message was directed towards all Americans during World War II, and not towards a single community or group of people. The viewer does not need an art background or even the slightest political awareness to understand the meaning of the poster. Rather, the poster is simple and straightforward. The central focus of the poster is on the Japanese man, whose facial features are clearly exaggerated to instill fear and disgust in the eyes of the viewer. In contrast, the frightened and vulnerable expression of the American woman, who is helpless in the grasp of the Japanese soldier, fuels the viewer's hatred for the Japanese even more. Its message is palpable to the extent of the quickest glance, yet there is more evidence hidden beyond the surface of the poster. Its full visual potential can be realized only after analyzing the various visual and textual elements in exacting detail.…

Blue Ridge Mill is a wood mill owned by Worldwide Paper Company and supplies wood pulp for the company for use in paper production. Blue Ridge Mill bought its wood supply from Shenandoah Mill’s excess production of shortwood that was processed from its longwood supplies. In 2006, Bob Prescott, the controller for Blue Ridge Mill, was considering a project that would give Blue Ridge Mill the capability to process longwood into shortwood, which would eliminate the need to purchase from Shenandoah Mill, as well as compete with Shenandoah Mill in the shortwood market.…
