diet because it is unhealthy. He blames food industries and medical industries for all the new treatments and also for making processed food and selling them in the market. David Zinczenko the author of “Don't Blame The Eater”, agree with Michael Pollan. Michael Pollan tell people to stay from western diet and David Zinczenko tell people to look at the back of the products and check what is the ingredients in the food. He also said that people are getting sick because they are not looking at the back of the product. Steven Shapin the author of “What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic?” also agree with Michael Pollan. He says that not all food what people think is organic, there are some food which is said that is organic but it is not real…
The essay that caught my interest is "Don't Blame the Eater" because this relates to almost every child in the United States. We as adults need to educate ourselves and the next generation. Fast food is a growing industry and it's not going anywhere. Picking up McDonald's is an easy solution because we don't have to cook, but the risk factor is very dangerous. Children don't care about the health issues they care about the taste.…
. The lion creates a direct comparison with William J. Bryant. This is because when William Bryant tried to solve the problem that was going on in the US Treasury by…
Because of the lion’s dangerous actions, the villagers had to alter their society and be scared of the “beast”. The cause and effect makes the lion appear to be a figure of terror; not an affectionate creature. Next, Goodwell Nzou supports his second claim by asserting that Americans are hypocritical because they are doing things that are similar to trophy hunting in their own country. He uses an anaphora to appeal to logos when stating, “Don’t tell us what to do with out animals when you allowed your own mountain lions to be hunted to near extinction in the eastern United States. Don’t bemoan the clear-cutting of our forests when you turned yours into concrete jungles” (Nzou). For this claim, the author uses the anaphora to repeat “don’t” to emphasize the fact that Americans should not be criticizing Africans for the killing of Cecil when they do just as much harm to their own country. The readers can clearly see what the Americans are doing to their societies, and begin to wonder if they support the ban for trophy…
The short story “Pride of Seven” by Robert W. Krepps demonstrates that occasionally people need to surprise society and do the unexpected. In the beginning, a man, who is the narrator of the story (the duchess), explains about how he ended up in Africa, and he also shares information about the tribe (the Masai) he has been living with; he may live in the village with the people, but he spends most of his fair shared time on the top of a hill watching the majestic seven lions that live below (the Pride of Seven). Moving on, the Masai have a tradition that in order to become a man, you must kill a lion, and one of the duchess’s friends, En-gerr, has not done so yet; therefore, when he mentioned the Pride of Seven to En-gerr, he wanted to…
Old McDonald had a farm. We all know that childhood song our parents used to sing to us growing up. Unfortunately, we (the American people) were on that farm acting as their livestock. They made millions off of our need for their fast convenient food. But who’s really to Blame? David Zinczenko tries to answer this question in his article called “Don’t Blame the Eater”, by comparing the rise in childhood heath issues with the popularity and convenience of the fast food industry.…
A well-known American author, Mark Twain, once said; “Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.” This proves that one’s human nature has a seed, growing inside, consisting of both good and evil. In the novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, as the novel progresses, the nature of hunting changes. This persuades the boys to abandon the values of civilization, leading them to self-indulge themselves with savagery. At first, the main purpose of hunting is for meat. It is evident that the innocence within Jack and the hunters is present when they have a hard time adjusting to their new lifestyle. This can be seen when they fail to follow through with the killing of the piglet. As the novel advances, innocence begins to fade and savagery comes to light. Now that hunting is no longer being utilized for survival, Jack and the hunters exhilaration and enjoyment to kill shows when they murder the sow. The hunters excitement explains how…
In the novel, the females go do chores such as lead the cows outside, cleaning the floor and cooking while the males go hunting and protect the cattle which are very different than my usual chores such as cleaning my room and taking out the trash. On page 10, it states “My brother and some other Dinka boys saw what happened and tried to chase the lions away. They ran at the lions and threw sticks to drive them…
Charles G.D Roberts is known for his 250 odd realistic animal stories published in the contemporary period. These so called realistic animal stories may be thought of as a response to Darwin’s exploration of the connections between man and animal; it is around this time when the “Origin of Species” broke down the barriers between the two. “Do Seek Their Meat from God”, one of Roberts’ animal stories, is no different in its ability to force a comparison between man and beast. With that said, in an essay concerning “Do Seek Their Meat from God” Seifert explains that “Roberts opens the story with a seemingly traditional nineteenth century landscape description… The wilderness is not depicted for its own sake…but directly bears on the theme, plot,…
Lions are wonderful creatures that should be protected at all cost. In 1994 lions all around the Serengeti lions were dying. In the article “A Lifeline for Lions” we see the danger they faced that could have made them extinct in that area. They were dying the virus Distemper, and this can kill quickly.…
In the writing Man of La Mancha, he speaks on credit card users and how they seem more self-assured of themselves because they have a card to pay with. I myself have a debit card and it is much easier to pay with when I’m at the store because I can just take it out and pay and with cash I have to look around in my wallet or purse count in front of everyone it takes a little more time than just swiping and signing and go on with the day. He says “those who pay with a credit card answer loud and clear” I myself never see myself do that when I pay with my card I just hand it or swipe and don’t let the people around know.…
Eaters of the Dead, is a novel written by Michael Crichton, which is a fictional story that follows Ahmad Ibn Fadlan’s “manuscript”. The Caliph of Baghdad sends Ahmad to northern Europe as an ambassador to meet the King of the Bulgars, due to his adultery with the merchant ibn-Qarins’s wife. Because of his actions it tosses him into the journey with Buliwyf, and his warriors to the kingdom of Rothgor to save the kingdom from an unknown danger. Thomas C. Foster wrote the book How to Read Literature like a Professor, which explains concepts that unfold in literature and film. Crichton uses these terms, and concepts that Thomas Foster states in his book to add depth, and an overall meaning to the text. Crichton bases his novel Eaters of the Dead…
There was a lion named Cecil. He was a very famous lion and he was also extinct.…
When I first heard about Cecil and his story was pretty sad, to think how a man can really do such a thing to a innocent creature just for the pleasure of having an animal kill. Cecil was a 13 year old Lion who lived in a reserve in Zimbabwe that should have been protected against poachers. Cecil was a well maintained lion and was used for many scientific research. Cecil meant so much to the people of Zimbabwe and they really cared for the lion.…
In the beginning of the poem The Hollow Men by T.S Eliot starts off with an allusions to help him contrast the past with the present. Eliot’s allusions created a distinctive, dreamlike world for a reader to explore. Also they reflected his theory of poetry, this story doesn’t reflect T.S Eliot’s life, but a bunch of past literature was a key source in writing his story. Three main messages from The Hollow Men are people are all full and stuffed at the same time, we wear masks to hide and fool people and we don’t look people we love in the eyes and tell the what we really need to tell them.…
