Ritalin is a very good drug to use if you have either the disease ADD ADHD. Although you can use it the right way you can also Abuse it.
What is Ritalin you may ask? (Beal,9) “Ritalin is the brand name for the prescription drug Methylphenidate”. Methylphenidate is a generic drug produced by several companies. Generic drugs and brand name drugs are similar in their effectiveness. However generic drugs usually cost less. Dexedrine and cylert are two other types of drugs that are also used to treat ADD and ADHD.
Where does Ritalin come from? Ritalin is not found in nature. It is a synthetic drug. “According to the U.S. drug Enforcement Agency Ritalin and methylphenidate are class II stimulant drugs”. (Beal,11) The DEA ranks drugs on a scale from I to IV. Ritalin’s illegal use can lead to addiction. Ritalin is in the same class as cocaine, morphine, and opium. Ritalin began to become popular with teens around 1990.
