He demonstrates this in the book when saying, “N….. lover is just one of those terms that don’t mean anything-like snot-nose. It’s hard to explain- ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody’s favoring Negroes over and above themselves. It’s slipped into usage with some people like ourselves, when they want a common, ugly term to label somebody” (107). This helps support that Atticus tries to teach his kids to treat everyone equally because he explains that there is nothing wrong being acquainted with a black man or women. He explains that people that call them mean words like stated above, no nothing about the man or background and are ignorant labeling somebody because of their color. In the book it states, “Every Lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime” (Chapter 9).This also helps show that Atticus wants his children to accept everybody. This does so because he accepted a case for a black man who was accused of raping a white woman. This was brave of Atticus to do, and Atticus looked at Tom Robinson as if he was a normal man. He defended him as well and believed he was innocent. He gave a black man a fair chance and him doing so creates a role model for his children. In the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, it asserts, “I certainly am, I do my best to love everybody… i’m hard put, sometimes- baby, it’s never an insult to be called …show more content…
In the book it states, “He would be there all night, and he would be there when Jem woke up in the morning” (281). This helps show how much Atticus really does care for Jem. Atticus has made it clear that he is always there for his children and loves them very much. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” it asserts, “When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness sake, But don’t make a production of it. Children are children, but they can spot an evasion quicker than adults, and evasion simply muddles em’” (Chapter 9). The evidence shows that Atticus believes that you should be open with your children and not let them become clueless. It shows that he really cares and loves for his children and is willing to share and inform them on personal topics. Another quote that supports the claim is, “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what” (chapter 11). This helps show that Atticus really cares and loves Jem enough to wait to give him something he really wants, a gun. He waited to help Them understand courage and the importance of embracing a gun. He wanted Jem to know that having a gun in his hand isn’t courage. He did this for the better of Jem. This helps demonstrate how
