Do learning life lessons as a person grows up make them more mature? In the book, there is a family that lives in a little town called Maycomb. Atticus is Scout and Jem's father, they do not have a mother, but they do have a nanny/housekeeper named Calpurnia who keeps them out of trouble. They are growing up during the depression, but are two of the happiest kids in Maycomb. They see many different things going on around town, some things they do and don’t understand. They grow up and mature throughout the book and by the end, have a good understanding of who the people in their town really are. She keeps trying to get Boo Radley to come out of the house. But she don’t understand that he wants to stay inside or why he wants to, it’s not because his father won’t let him go out. “The things that happen to people we never really know. What happens in houses behind closed doors, what secrets” ( Lee 61). Scout doesn’t understand Boo, she has never met him. But by the end of the book, Scout understands the reason he hasn’t come out is specifically because of the way people poorly treat others. He doesn’t want to have to deal with it, so he stays out of it by staying in his house. She understands that Boo chooses to stay inside his house because he chooses to distance himself from the hate in their town. She sees others in her town treating people of a different race the wrong way, she learns that skin color doesn’t affect the people live or who they are. She also learns that she shouldn’t be rude to others because she never knows what is going on in their lives and how their home life is. Scout learns many life lessons and the different ways she has to treat people, even if she doesn’t get along with them. When people grow up they become more mature with their
