Attitudes about Writing
How do you feel about writing academic papers? Writing academic papers covers many topics, there informative and studious. It is different from ordinary writing; may require research, references and points of view. Academic writing teaches one how to capture and hold the readers attention. Although new in this arena, I enjoy the reading and writing of assignments. As time passes, I expect to improve on my writings.

If you have enjoyed writing in the past, what did you like about the process of writing? Yes, writing was an escape for me. It was a way to release myself, a form of therapy. I was able to pen my thoughts in the form of poetry, or basic writing. I wrote about dreams and fairy tales. Being adopted and later placed in group homes has placed me in a position to read a lot. When the time permitted, I spent many hours in the library, reading just about anything to keep from returning home. But academic writing is another category.

Did you have any of the misconceptions about writing? No, I haven’t, I just enjoyed writing about things that interested me. I wasn’t writing to become a novelist, just expressing my thoughts. Later on in life, I began to understand, if writing was fostered anyone could write. Everyone may not become a journalist or poet, but can write effectively. I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. The most vivid memory I have of writing is back in the tenth grade. I had the best teacher ever in regards to writing. I used to view writing as a senseless waste of time. Writing, in my opinion, at the time was always noted to be formal and boring; however, my tenth grade English teacher, Mrs. Perez, changed my whole perception of writing and how it affects humanity. One day after class she pulled me aside and recommended a book known as, “His Dark Materials,” which is about a young girl who, with her allies, fought for the discovery of a dark substance called the “Dust.” The book single handedly altered my mental picture of writing and creativity. Writing can be about anything in the universe, and the possibilities are endless. The main point, however, which ties everything together, is imagination. One’s imagination can truly be defined as infinite to the power of infinite, because it contains numerous amounts of details and features on life and the world itself. How does this tie to writing one may ask. Well an elaborate imagination helps to create an elaborate piece of writing. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”…

Everyone writes for different reasons. Writing allows us to tell a story through our own perspective. It allows us to pour all our thoughts and emotions into something that we otherwise might not speak about. Writing can spark ideas and memories we have and draw them out to be put into words on paper. It exercises our mind and our way of thinking. When you write you say what you mean. Some people use writing as an outlet, a way to express themselves or relieve stress and anxiety. It can be used for any purpose. Elie Wiesel uses his experience in the holocaust in a lot of his writing. He feels that he must be the one to tell the story of the victims, the ones who can’t tell it for themselves. Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own theory of writing.…
