2. What are some key demographics about my audience, such as age, gender, family situation, etc.?
Male, grandmother is coping with a debilitating illness
3. How much does my audience know about the topic?
Jeff knows that there is a professional conference this weekend at a nearby convention center. Jeff also knows that Nina Hernandez has covered for him three times in the last two months.
4. How much formality does my audience prefer?
If my understanding of formality is correct I would say that Jeff does not expect much formality. By him leaving the phone message shows that he used an informal medium. However, since Human Resources may have to get involved at a later date it is best for me to use a formal response. 5. How do I expect my audience to react to this message?
Jeff will not be very pleased that his request for emergency leave is going to be denied but he may understand when he understands the reason why it has been denied. 6. What are my audience’s values in relation to this message? What do they care about most?
Jeff obviously values his grandmother’s well-being but he also values his job. I think he cares most about his grandmother. 7. What do I want my audience to think, do, feel, or believe after reading my message?
I want Jeff to know that Nina has also requested this weekend off and that it is only fair that she have the weekend off because she has covered for him three times in the last two months. If he does not work I will be short staffed.
8. Are there any benefits for my audience that is related to this message?
If he helps with this busy weekend we and all goes well we could potentially have more business throughout the year. 9. What information do I need to include for the secondary audience?
Information that needs to be included is the fact that he has already had three emergency leaves in the last two months.
