In 1770 James Cook, a british Captain, claimed the east coast of Australia for the British Crown, under strict instruction from King George III. The British colonisation started eighteen years later, with the arrival of the first fleet. This fleet established a british penal colony, a place wher the british government sendt criminals. The penal colony is the one that later on became Sydne. This were to be the beginning of a longterm realtionship between the British crown and the Australian continent.
Before 1901 Australia did not exist as a real independent nation. From 1788 Australia was based on six British colonies which were more or less self-governing, …show more content…
but under the law-making power of the British Parliament back in London. Back then the colonies were almost like six separate countries, all six of them had for example each of its own laws and also some sort of a working government, with its own military defence force, and they also issued their own stamps and taxes on goods that crossed their borders from time to time. They did not have a lot to say about each others colonies, even though they were all british settlers, and they all, more or less, came from the same country just a few years earlier.

January 1901 Australia became a nation when the six British colonies, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia desided to become united, and then form what they chosed to call, the Commonwealth of Australia. This was all because of an agreement of a drafted constitution by Australian voters. After 1900 when the British parliament had passed legislation to enable the Austrlian commomwealth to take form and come into existence all this was possible withous any riots or wars of any kind bethween the two countries. This new drafted constitution gave the commonwealth, or the federal government, certain defined powers and all residual powers were given to the new governments of the six colonies, which were then renamed states to what we now them as today. By this and in its separate and independent judiciary, the political system is resembled that of the United States, and the executive authority was established on the British …show more content…

Austalian government and political system
After 1901 the Australian government started to take form after the six colonies agreed on the constitution, but still Britain retained the constitutional rule until 1931. Today in the 20th century Australia have finaly become a constitutional monarchy, this means that the government is still organizied under the law and rules from the Constitution that was drafted in 1901. The structure of the Australian Government today, could be shown by the whay australia have taken the ideas of two distinct conepts, thise two consept is namely a mix of federalism and the seperation of powers into, executive, legesaative and judicial ranches of government. The Separation of powers is implied from the structure of the Constitution which breaks down the branches of government into separate chapters. The Australian federal system is a unique mixture of the Westminister and US systems of federal representative democracy, with important elements of both present. Formally the executive power lies with the monark, Eliasbeth II, which is represented by a generalgovernor, and Elisabeth II has by this no real powers.
Australia's legislative power is in the Federal Parliament , which consists of a Senate and a representative house . Both are elected in general elections. The federation has authority over trade , transportation, finance, banking , currency , defense, foreign policy and social security systems . Some of the political areas fall under the state the authority. Each of the six states are managerially organized as federation with a governor , a parliament consisting of upper and lower house , a government headed by a prime minister , as well as an executive advice . Among state the main functions are education, health care , judiciary and police .
with a cabinet headed by a prime minister responsible to the lower house of the bicameral legislature.
Similarities and differences with UK
Since the late 1700's when Captain James Cook claimed Australia under the British Crown, there have been a strong relationship between Australia and England. Australia inherited many fine British institutions including parliamentary democracy and the common law.
Austrailia builted their government with some of the the British consept. Just like britain, australia has divided the governments power into three, splitting it so ther will be equal power and no one will have all the power in their hands. This is the legeslativ, execution and the judicial seperation, which they learnded form britain.
Austrlia is organized as a federal state , where the crown is represented at both the federal level and state level .
The political system is based on the Westminster system ,which is a parliamentary form of government based on the Politics of the United Kingdom. The Westminister system involves a set procedures for the organization of the Legislature assembly. The government emanates from the lower house of parliament or “House of Representatives”, but with a overhus in the form of a Senate with representatives of states. The exercise of authority occurs in the monarch , the queen's name .The contemporary political relationship between London and Canberra is underpinned by a robust bilateral dialogue at head-of-government, ministerial and senior officials level. As Commonwealth realms, the two countries share a monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, and are both active members within the Commonwealth of Nations. In
2006,
A referendum on the form of government in 1999, at which the proposal was that Australia should become a republic , meant that a majority of voters expressed support for that Australia would continue as a constitutional monarchy . It was a majority against the Republic in all states and in the Northern Territory , but majority to change the form of government of the Australian Capital Territory around the capital Canberra. By this the Austrlian popelation showsa that they want to keep a link to the british crown, and that their relationship is positiv and strong.
As stated earlie the political system in Australia resembles that on in the United States. In the Federal Parliament power is divided between the Senate and the House og Representatives. And as in Britain and the American, there are two major parties, the Australian Labor Party and the Liberal Party of Australia.
Similarities and differenses Is this positive or negative?
As we can see there are both huge differences but also major similarities between Australia and Britain, and if Australia choses to become more unlike the british commonwelt in the fuiture is hard to say, but they will always have a common history together, and nothing can change that. The question if the conection between Australia and Britan is a postiv or negativ consequens could higly be discusted.
Many would say that a closer conection with the Brithis kingdom would be good for Australia, the fact that they already share the same monark Queen Elizabeth II as head of state, showes that the “flreirtale” of the Australian popultion is in favor of ceeping the links between the countries. This is only “forsterka” as they both is a member of the Commonwealth of Nation.
Those who want a freer and more independent Australian nation, would say that the bond between Australia and England is holding Australiand development as a nation back, and that they would be better off, even though as we can see australia is more or less all free today. They want a president and not a common queen with the british. common law from uk with local law conclution Its hard to say if Austalia would be better, without any similarities to the british crown or not. Some may say that with their queen being english, and also queen of england, Australia will always bee seen as a conony of the Biritish commonwealth, and that they never will be fully free from british roule. Other will say that the conection trough the common queen is a good way to ceep a strong and powerfull nation which could supports Austrlalia's back if they ever needed help. Also The british conection with australia have in the past helped them built the grate nation that they are today, and could possibily help them become even sttronger with time.
