    Carnival Cruise Case

Much of Carnival’s success is attributed to its marketing program directed toward the young, fun-seeking, first-time cruiser. One important aspect of the marketing program built upon the ship as the destination rather than some particular port of call. The main advertising theme has been that Carnival Lines is a “Fun Ship.” Carnival has ships for all 4 segments (Luxury, Premium, Contemporary, and Specialty).…

Traveling the ICW and arriving in Lake Boca, Boca Raton, Florida, on a Saturday afternoon, we knew it would be crowded but, ….WOW! Not only was it Saturday afternoon, it was quite warm with a light ocean breeze and that endless blazing Florida sunshine that calls us all to come out and play. There were a gazillion boats, all filled with loads of people. There were floaty toys, people standing in the knee-deep water in the center, and plenty of music of all volumes and varieties. We’ve even seen floating food truck type boats selling snacks and drinks out here.…

    Copa Cruise Case

    • 5 Pages

Copa Cruises - Welcome Aboard! Copa Cruises is a 40-year old company that offers dining and sightseeing cruises. What started with only one ship at Maryland’s Eastern Shore, is now a big business operating at multiple locations with 40 vessels. Copa operates scheduled tours at least twice daily during the peak travel/tourism seasons at each of its locations. The total number of scheduled tours varies based on the number of vessels available at each location. Copa also offers its ships exclusively for groups. In fact, a significant portion of Copa’s revenues come from group bookings. Typically, group customers book for corporate events, weddings, or private celebrations (e.g. family reunion). Copa customizes the table arrangement, the deck, and the menu to suit its customers’ needs for a group event. An event coordinator helps customers with the layout, food and dining options, and other special needs for their utmost satisfaction. The event coordinators at each of the locations oversee reservations and logistics of special events. Currently, event coordinators have full responsibility in pricing the cruises for groups. Once a customer makes an inquiry, an event coordinator first checks the availability by date. If the group can be accommodated given the capacity of a ship and there is availability for the desired date, further information about the event is gathered. A service contract that specifies the date, time, route and length of the cruise, the food and beverage selection, and additional service needs, is prepared. The event coordinator specifies a price per person to cover all the expenses of a tour in this contract. Information on each contract is recorded in Copa’s database. Event coordinators charge different prices to different customers. However, price differentiation is done in an ad hoc manner. Each coordinator relies on his/her expertise and knowledge to quote a price to a customer. Many event coordinators think corporate groups are less sensitive…

    Punta Cana Research Paper

Several summers ago, shortly after I graduated 6th grade, my mother and I took the pilgrimage that all East Coasters with a week of free time and a fresh passport must take. By this, of course, I refer to seven days of good old fun-in-the-sun in a Caribbean resort. Like many other families, we had planned to go directly to the resort town of Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, until our flight back to New York departed a week later. And so it was, for several days at least. But lazy afternoons and evenings on the beach can become stale after a while. It was pleasant, for sure, but not stimulating. Punta Cana hadn’t captured my attention as the bright lights of Hong Kong or the ancient history of London had. There was no local flair, nothing…

Carnival is a low-cost and customer oriented company which provides fun for a broad market. (Exhibit1 illustrates the core competiveness and key activities of CCL.) “Fun Ship” theme is the key competitive advantage of CCL which “wants to think of the boat as the destination, and the ports as secondary”. At the same time, they use various promotional channels and wide ticket price range to attract broader market. Low cost strategy, customer friendly service and efficient product distribution enable CCL to be the leading company in the cruise industry.CCL performed well in the past and boasts bright future market, but there is still a large room of strategic improvement to break the bottleneck and achieve an even stronger market position.…

Escape the lifeless winter by perusing into the summer season of Costa Rica. With a few extra precious hours of sunshine, steeper waves driven by the Arctic storms and the perfect elopement from mundane days, Costa Rica’s verano is the busy season for tourism. Every restaurant, shop and hotel remains open late, and dinner reservations may be competitive. However, a winter trip to Costa Rica doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. Restaurants identify with US’ prices, the local bus is nearly complimentary, hiking and beaches are free, and fresh market food is nutritious and affordable. Doesn’t a snow-free departure to vibrant Costa Rica sound worthy of a slight sum of spending…

    * Economies of Destiny: These “mega-ships” are built with a large number of cabins and lower berths aiding in the spread of substantial fixed costs over many passengers. Therefore, resulting in lower unit costs and making the product much more appealing and affordable to more parts of the population by achieving a break-even point at lower prices. Cruise liners also have a strong incentive to reach high utilization ratios in order to achieve such economics, which result to such discounting. (Dowling, 2010)…
